Two executives of fire-fighting systems firm Mega Planet, who were charged with negligence resulting in eight deaths and seven injuries in the pyrogen-activating accident at Siam Commercial Bank (SCB)'s head office on Sunday, stated that they had done everything according to safety procedures.
Acting Metropolitan Police Commissioner Pol Maj-General Sanit Mahathaworn, meanwhile, said police would be requesting the court to issue arrest warrants for more suspects.
Sanit said police was interviewing SCB officials after police learned that Mega Planet had hired three sub-contractors, whose safety standards would also be scrutinised, because the contract initially stated that the hiring of a sub-contractor must get SCB's consent. So far there was not sufficient evidence to charge SCB for negligence, he said. Sanit also explained that the pyrogen system had been installed there for almost a decade.

Greg Hayes, chief executive of United Technologies defended its decision to close an air conditioning plant in Indianapolis and move the jobs to Mexico in the face of attacks from Donald Trump and signaled that more closures could follow.
Mr Hayes was speaking after an investor day in New York, where the company highlighted the potential to boost profits by shifting further manufacturing from high-cost countries to low-cost areas such as Mexico.

Glendale-based global multi-industrial firm Johnson Controls Inc. has revealed additional plans for its integration with Irish fire protection and security solutions company Tyco International plc, including the leaders who will guide the combination process.
Mike Bartschat, vice president and chief procurement officer for Johnson Controls, and Bob Roche, senior vice president, Business Finance at Tyco, will co-lead a new Integration Management Office the companies have formed, according to an SEC filing. They will be responsible for choosing the best parts of both companies to design the new Johnson Controls; making sure both companies are ready for the first day of combined operations; finding revenue and expense synergies in both companies; and creating an operating model for the new company that encourages growth and improved customer experience.

MILWAUKEE (TNS) -- The chairman of Johnson Controls Inc., which is in the process of dramatic changes including a spinoff and merger with Tyco International, responded to a Hillary Clinton presidential campaign ad that criticizes the company's planned shift of its corporate headquarters for tax purposes from suburban Milwaukee to Ireland.
Alex Molinaroli, the chairman of Wisconsin's largest public company, said during a breakfast meeting of businesspeople he was in his office when the Democratic front-runner came to the Milwaukee area the day after her debate with Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Clinton filmed a commercial across the street from Johnson Controls' battery business headquarters.

$24 Billion in Security Deals - in Two Months

It started with Johnson Controls in January - $16.5 billion for Tyco in a move that angered US Presidential hopefuls as it was primarily for tax reasons; then we saw Honeywell setting out its plans to buy the Dublin based company Xtralis for $480 million before the mid February announcement that ADT would be bought by Apollo Global Management for $6.9 billion. Almost $24 billion of mergers and acquisitions have been announced in the first two months of 2016.
So what does this say about the market? It seems to be saying two things. The first and most important to the security industry is that it is clearly an area where real long-term market growth and potential is seen. Almost $24 billion, more than the GDP of many small countries, is being spent on mergers and acquisitions of a few very large security companies - and that sum isn't committed lightly.

Honeywell International Inc is seeking a buyer for its building solutions business, the Wall Street Journal reported, adding that the business could fetch $3 billion to $4 billion.
Honeywell has hired Goldman Sachs to help find a buyer for the business, which makes sensing and security technologies for homes and commercial buildings, the Journal said, citing sources.
"We do not comment on market rumor or speculation," Honeywell Vice President External Communications Rob Ferris said.

ALTOONA - An Altoona-based builder of automatic fire suppression systems is being sued by an insurance company over a claim of negligence and breach of implied warranty.
Acadia Insurance Company filed a lawsuit Feb. 1 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania against Leonard S. Fiore, Inc. alleging negligence and breach of implied warranty of good and workmanlike service and construction.

Fire detection and prevention equipment supplier, Argus Fire, has secured a £1 million contact from Mercia Waste Management to design and build the fire prevention systems for the new EnviRecover waste to energy plant near Stourport.
The EnviRecover waste to energy plant has been financed by Worcestershire County Council and Herefordshire District Council, with Swiss waste to technology provider Hitachi Zosen Inova (HZI) acting as the main Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractor.

FireIce Tops Halon for Lithium Battery Fires

Catastrophic dust explosions during the last 15 to 20 years have placed an increased emphasis on the prevention and mitigation of dust explosions. In response to these incidents and subsequent Chemical Safety Board (CSB) investigations and recommendations, OSHA introduced a Combustible Dust National Emphasis Program (NEP) and has greatly increased enforcement efforts. One area, where prescriptive guidance often seems unclear to facilities, is protection methods for fire and explosion hazards in conveying systems.

Through a merger with Dow Chemical, followed by a three-way split, DuPont hopes to improve its fortunes. But the big beneficiary might not be DuPont's shareholders: it might be 3M's.
Less than a mile from my childhood home stands the Hagley Museum, which features the remnants of DuPont's original gunpowder mills from 1802, as well as a space suit and NASCAR vehicle featuring DuPont products. It's a reminder of how far the company has come since its founding.
Just across the river from Hagley is DuPont's sprawling Experimental Station complex, opened in 1903 as the first industrial laboratory in the world. It's where Nylon was invented. Also Teflon, Kevlar, and the world's first synthetic rubber Neoprene. As DuPont's largest lab, it's the heart of DuPont's materials science endeavors.
But tragically, it seems that the company's dominance may be better suited for the museum than the lab. Recent changes are poised to benefit its main materials science rival, 3M.

The drama is over, at least for now. On March 1, Honeywell withdrew its bid to acquire United Technologies Corp. (UTC) in what would have been a $90 billion megamerger of two U.S. industrial giants that also happen to be the industry's largest aircraft systems suppliers. Combined, the new firm would have boasted revenue of $97 billion and world-beating positions in numerous aerospace and industrial markets.
Honeywell CEO David Cote labeled the bid "an incredible deal" for UTC shareholders. UTC CEO Gregory Hayes countered that the deal raised major aerospace customer concerns and would never survive antitrust scrutiny.
