The Huntingdon County Chamber was excited to host the first-ever Leadership Huntingdon County Alumni Reunion on Wednesday, bringing together alumni from the program’s earliest class through the most recent class for an evening of reconnecting, networking, and fellowship.
The gathering was a wonderful reminder of the lasting connections and friendships created through Leadership Huntingdon County. We are grateful to all of the alumni who joined us and helped make the evening so special.
A special thank you to Juniata Brewing Company for hosting us and providing a great space to celebrate our LHC alumni family. We look forward to continuing to build connections and creating many more opportunities for our alumni to come together!

PA Unemployment Drops to 3.7%, Lowest In Two Years

Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate dropped to 3.7 percent in August, its lowest level in over two years, the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry reported. The Commonwealth’s rate remains below the U.S. rate, which is unchanged at 4.1 percent. Pennsylvania’s rate, its lowest since May 2024, is two-tenths of a percentage point away from the June/July 2023 record low of 3.5 percent – set months into Governor Josh Shapiro’s first year in office. Jobs increased in August with three supersectors hitting record high levels. The Commonwealth’s civilian labor force, which is the estimated number of residents working or looking for work, rose by 8,000 over the month to a record high 6,659,000. Employment also reached a record level while unemployment dropped 11,000 in August. Total nonfarm jobs in Pennsylvania increased by 5,800 from July to 6,206,700 in August. Jobs rose over the month in seven of the 11 industry supersectors. The largest volume gain was in trade, transportation, & utilities, up 1,700. Three supersectors – financial activities, education & health services, and leisure & hospitality – set new record high employment levels in August.

Two Lawmakers Seek Skill Games Extension

The deadline for tackling skill games regulation would be delayed until next spring under similar bills being drafted by two House lawmakers. Reps. Manual Guzman, D-Berks, and Brad Roae, R-Crawford, filed co-sponsor memos announcing their plans seeking a six-month extension beyond a looming Oct. 13 court deadline for General Assembly action on skill games. Both lawmakers pick April 13 as the new deadline. Guzman and Roae seek to maintain the current status of skill games in establishments during the interim period. They expressed doubt that lawmakers can agree on a comprehensive regulation for skill games by Oct. 13 given the few scheduled session days this fall. The memos surface after the Pennsylvania State Police told owners of skill game machines to remove them by Oct. 14 or face prosecution. The House and Senate are scheduled back in session Sept. 28 after a two-month recess. Nine session days are scheduled before the Nov. 3 election, but days could be added or subtracted. The court’s Oct. 13 deadline comes at a time when lawmakers are usually eager to go on recess for a final round of campaigning before election day.

The Huntingdon Chamber is once again partnering with the Huntingdon County Planning Commission to recognize the people, businesses, organizations, and projects making a positive impact throughout Huntingdon County.
Projects completed during 2026 are eligible for consideration in this year’s Community Improvement Awards, which will be presented during the Planning Commission’s Annual Dinner on February 25, 2027.
Awards will be presented in four categories:
- New Construction
- Preservation: Historic & Reuse of an Existing Building or Lot
- Community Spirit
- Special Merit
Do you know of a project that deserves recognition? Nominate it! Whether it transformed a space, preserved an important part of our community, brought people together, or went above and beyond, we want to hear about it.
Nominations are due by December 4, 2026, at 4:00 p.m.
