The members of the Hunterdon County Board of Chosen Freeholders encourage all residents to reflect on what Memorial Day means to America, during the upcoming long weekend.
Freeholder Board Director Matt Holt has suggested, “There are many ways to remember that Memorial Day is more than a three day holiday. It is a day that has been set aside to recognize the ultimate sacrifice made by those who served our nation, in our military, to protect freedom in the United States of America.
Display your American Flag at your home,
attend a local parade,
attend a religious service or say a private prayer of thanks,
pay tribute at a cemetery covered with a sea of flags denoting our veterans who have passed,
volunteer to lay wreaths at a local military cemetery,
reach out to a family member who has served and offer thanks,
during your family barbecue ask everyone to just pause for a moment to reflect on the meaning of the day,
attend a Revolutionary military enactment in Princeton,
donate to Veterans non-profit organizations to help Veterans in need,
Any and all of these actions will be at little cost to you, in tribute and remembrance of a much more significant cost by those who gave all.
We wish you a healthy, safe and reflective Memorial Day weekend.”
