Special Message
Financial Sustainability and
Strategic Planning Committees
November 9, 2021
Dear Lovejoy Community,

Last night, the Lovejoy ISD Board of Trustees held a Workshop. There are two items of high interest which I wanted to share with you this morning:

Budget Workshop/Financial Sustainability Committee
LOVEJOY 2030/Strategic Planning Committee

We will share a full Board Brief with you tomorrow regarding all of the agenda items.

The primary purpose of the Budget Workshop was to kick off the 2022-2023 budgeting process. As part of the budget workshop,

  • Financial data was shared
  • Five-year budget projection was presented
  • Priorities were discussed
  • The zero-based budgeting timeline was communicated
  • The charter for the Financial Sustainability Committee was reviewed

It is very important to note that the discussions at this Budget Workshop were very preliminary. No formal decisions or recommendations were made. Over the next few months, a Financial Sustainability Committee will be formed which will consist of staff, parents, and community members. Serving in an advisory capacity, the Financial Sustainability Committee will assess and make recommendations related to budgeting and long-range financial planning. The data provided last night was very high level and only intended to start conversations. The Financial Sustainability Committee will dive much deeper in to the data in the coming months. Updates on the ongoing work of the Financial Sustainability Committee will be shared publicly at Board Workshops and Regular Meetings of the Board of Trustees.

Last night, we also discussed the importance of launching a revitalized strategic planning process. To this aim, we are launching LOVEJOY 2030. Grounded in the Lovejoy ISD Mission, Core Values, and Graduate Profile, LOVEJOY 2030 will be our community-based strategic planning initiative aimed at taking Lovejoy ISD to the next level. The LOVEJOY 2030 Strategic Planning Committee will consist of students, staff, parents, and community members. The focus will be on championing Lovejoy ISD’s legacy of excellence, supporting future ready students, and achieving financial sustainability.
