I want to share information regarding verified ICE activity in Ossining yesterday, Wednesday, September 2, at approximately 5:45 pm in the downtown Ossining area. This information was provided to me by the Chief of Police, following reports of ICE activity in downtown Ossining.
Neither the Ossining Police Department nor I had any advance knowledge that this activity was taking place.
We understand that one adult male was detained in connection with previously outstanding criminal charges. At this time, we do not have any additional verified information. The Neighbors Link legal team is aware of the situation and will communicate with me as we work to learn more.
ICE agents reportedly stopped in the Ossining High School parking lot across from Dorsey Funeral Home after taking the individual into custody to further secure him. I am particularly troubled by the timing and location of this activity, as this occurred while the wake was being held for an Ossining High School Class of 2025 graduate who tragically died in a car accident on Tuesday, and while an Ossining High School soccer game was underway.
There is a time and place for federal law enforcement to carry out its responsibilities. Conducting an ICE operation in the immediate vicinity of a grieving family, our high school students, and a school athletic event—without any advance notification to local officials or the school district—was deeply upsetting and, in my view, unnecessarily disruptive to our community.
Our community deserves transparency and communication from federal authorities when their actions directly impact our residents, schools, and public spaces. As Mayor, I will continue to work closely with Chief Zimmerman, the Ossining School District, and our community partners to ensure that accurate information is shared, that everyone’s constitutional rights are respected, and that the safety and well-being of our residents remain our priority.
