Statement from the Glenmore Community Association Board

Dear Mark,

The GCA Board is scheduled to hold its monthly meeting this Thursday at the Club at 5 P.M.We fully understand that there are a number of residents who are upset about the changes in personnel at the security gatehouse. We are also fully open to hearing every resident who wishes to be heard on the issue.

Preliminary to this week’s meeting we wish to share a couple items of foundational context:

  1. Securitas is our security company, and has been since 2015. While the GCA Security Committee consults with Securitas on security issues, our contract with Securitas gives the company sole discretion to make staffing decisions which will enable it to comply with its contractual agreement to protect our community. Also, personnel information and personnel files are confidential.
  2. Associa is the community management company which the Board has hired to manage various issues in the community. Associa and our designated full-time Associa representative, Megan Burch, are not responsible for security. Associa and Megan have no involvement in any issue as to gatehouse staffing. Likewise, the Gatehouse staff had no involvement in personnel decisions. Please treat them with courtesy.

We have asked Securitas to provide us all with the best explanation they are able to give in the context of these confidentiality limits.

The statement we received from Securitas follows:

Statement from Securitas

In January, in partnership with Glenmore’s Security Committee, Securitas identified a number of serious deficiencies in the safety and security program at Glenmore. These deficiencies were addressed with all Securitas officers at the Glenmore site. In an effort to correct the problems which had been identified Securitas initiated retraining of everyone involved, including retraining on the new technology added to the security program. Personnel were given improvement plans and deadlines for meeting goals.

Unfortunately, despite allowing from January to July to see improvement, those deficiencies remained. Securitas believed that the problems put the safety and security of the Glenmore community at risk.

Very reluctantly, because of awareness of the many personal and longstanding relationships involved, the decision was made that there was no reasonable alternative to making adjustments to staffing to correct the problems. Please understand that as an employer there are certain things which, by law, we are required to keep confidential. Please also note that we are required by contract and law to adhere to professional standards that will maximize the safety and security of the Glenmore community.

While we of course recognize and value relationships of the staff with the community—and these were considered in the decisions made—our primary focus in balancing these interests must always be on the side of better safety and security for the Glenmore community. Securitas does not make such decisions lightly and every decision was made with the safety and security of the Glenmore residents in mind.

The Board has added this issue to the Agenda of its regular meeting on Thursday, July 20. As always, the meeting is open and residents are welcome to attend.

Residents who wish to speak at the meeting should contact our Associa representative, Megan Burch at: GCA@glenmore-community.org or mburch@communitygroup.com.

In order to accommodate everyone who wishes to speak, each speaker will be limited to three minutes.

Sincerely,

The GCA Board of Directors
