Austin Clarke: Recognizing a Literary Great

Wednesday, June 30, 2021. Join us to celebrate the legacy of Barbadian-Canadian writer Austin Clarke (1934-2016). This special program will mark the unveiling of the ROM's recently commissioned portrait of Clarke by artist Neville Clarke. The event includes excerpts from Austin Clarke's works read by David Chariandy and original compositions presented by poet Canisia Lubrin and author Desmond Cole.  
 
This program will feature a 40-minute film, followed by a LIVE Q&A with Arlene Gehmacher, Neville Clarke, and Rinaldo Walcott.

A Thousand-Year-Old Buddhist Print from Dunhuang

Join ROM curator Wen-chien Cheng in conversation with Jessica Lockhart and Amanda Goodman from the University of Toronto as they explore how modern research and scientific analysis can shed light on the history of a thousand-year-old Buddhist devotional print from Dunhuang, China. The print commemorates a summer festival held in Dunhuang in the year 947 CE, more than a millennium ago.
The One About Water, Access, and Equity

Join Kiron Mukherjee, ROMKids Coordinator and Camp Director, and Kiowa Wind Memorial Indigenous Youth Support Staff Justin Kewaquado as they talk about the importance of keeping our fresh water clean from pollution, and accessible to all communities. Each video includes a craft or activity for children to enjoy.

Beyond Monet: The Immersive Experience

The ROM is a partner in a new BIPOC Fellowship Program to help magnify the creative vision and voices of our BIPOC community. In conjunction with the Fellowship, one dollar of every ticket purchased to Beyond Monet: The Immersive Experience will go towards supporting the BIPOC Fellowship Program. 

Beyond Monet makes its World premiere in Toronto at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre this summer, for a limited engagement.
