Good Morning,

With the coronavirus (COVID-19) impact continuing to grow in Iowa and the new recommendations from the CDC and the State of Iowa, Special Olympics Iowa has made the difficult decision to extend the suspension of all training and activities through the end of May.

The suspension will affect all sport training, practices and competitions, including all upcoming Spring Games and the Summer Games. Also included in this suspension are all Polar Plunges and fundraising events.

The decision to extend the suspension was not made lightly, but we believe this is an opportunity to develop new programming that athletes can implement at home. We are currently working on the development of training plans, wellness guidance and a culmination activity for the spring season. We will be using the Facebook group " Stay Healthy with Special Olympics Iowa " to not only go on a health journey together, but to also disperse the different health related programming we develop. The goal is to develop alternative ways that the Special Olympics Iowa community can still gain the health, social, and joyful benefits that come with our programming. Stay tuned for more on this in early April.

We are currently looking into alternative ways to host fundraising events virtually and will provide updates as plans are confirmed.

Please continue to be vigilant regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19). Follow preventative measures such as keeping your hands clean, avoiding contact with people who are sick, and staying home if you don’t feel well.

Additional information, scheduling updates, and tips will continue to be available on our website, soiowa.org .

Thank you for your patience, support and understanding as we continue to navigate this uncharted territory.

Sincerely,
John Kliegl
