Team Massachusetts took one more step on its journey to the 2018 Special Olympics USA Games in Seattle, Washington this month. The Soccer and Flag Football teams were selected following the completion of their state-level competitions. Please join us in congratulating the newest members of Team Massachusetts:

Keep up your wellness routine this Holiday Season

Wellness Wednesday with Beth Donahue wants you to continue to make good choices as you work your way from turkey and pie at Thanksgiving to latkes at Hanukah to cookies and candy canes at Christmas! Special Olympics Health Messenger, Beth Donahue and her mom Gina brought their friend Erin into the Yawkey Sports Training Center to help teach you all about a great core exercise - the Plank. 

In addition to regular sport specific training, general wellness can play a part in an even more healthy lifestyle. By working out and eating well, you will be more healthy and a better athlete when it comes time to take the field!

Volunteers Needed!

Winter season volunteer opportunities are now available!  Join the movement and help with a fundraiser (5k or Polar Plunge) in your town, basketball, bowling, alpine skiing, and/or floor hockey.  Register online to choose the role that is right for you:  http://www.specialolympicsma.org/volunteer

Bristol County Honors 

Earlier this month, Special Olympics Massachusetts honored the contributions of athletes, coaches, volunteers, schools and Law Enforcement at the first annual Bristol County Honors reception. The event was held at Gillette Stadium on November 11th and hosted by Special Olympics athlete,  Brandon Moore and retired Attleboro Police Chief, Rick Pierce. Award recipients included: 

Athletes of the year: John & Kyle Titus
Coach of the year: Tara Pettine
Volunteer of the year: Andy Heller
School of the year: Seekonk High School
LETR Partner of the year: Larry Crosman

Champions for 50 Spotlight: 
Peter & Elizabeth C. Tower Foundation & 
Elizabeth McCourt

The Peter & Elizabeth C. Tower Foundation and Elizabeth McCourt are Champions for 50. Over the next three years, The Tower Foundation will support Special Olympics Massachusetts' efforts to build more inclusive communities in Essex County. As a Champion for 50 The Tower Foundation will fund growth opportunities with partner organizations like the Northeast Arc, help build Unified Champion Schools and develop programs for athletes transitioning out of High School. Elizabeth McCourt is an accomplished Special Olympics athlete leader from Essex County. 

Elizabeth will join the Tower Foundation to ensure that many more opportunities are created for her peers and future athletes. Together, The Tower Foundation and Elizabeth will bring together many people and groups within Essex County, to build an inclusive region through the power of sports.

Each Unified partnership will strengthen their legacy of building a more inclusive community with a commitment to raise critical funds and increase awareness of Special Olympics' impact in the commonwealth.
