Important Outreach News

Outreach has long been woven into the fabric of Good Shepherd and continued to rank as a top priority in responses to the congregational survey conducted a little over a year ago. It is important to remember that a successful outreach ministry requires the involvement of many not just a few. That being said, and as a parish approaching 3 years without a rector, we have accomplished some pretty amazing things including several impactful outreach projects.

Just 10 days ago, with your help, GS provided turkeys and groceries for Thanksgiving meals to approximately 60 families in need along with hosting Ripe for Revival’s pay-as-you-can Mobile Market during the distribution event. Thanks to Brenning Daughtridge and Children’s Chapel helpers and children, we had lovingly decorated grocery bags in which to pack the grocery items. St. Andrews joined with us in sponsoring the Mobile Market which provided us an opportunity for fellowship as well as service. This event was a positive example of our goal of involving all ages in outreach as well as increasing our impact through partnerships in our community. Thank you for your support of this worthwhile project.

If you missed the Thanksgiving project, do not worry as we have moved directly on to our Christmas Stars project! Christmas Stars information was in last week's eShepherd but in case you overlooked it, we need your help in making sure there are gifts on Christmas morning for 30 children from area families in need. Please purchase gifts totaling $60-80 per child and drop off in the parlor by Sunday Dec 10th. Some children have only clothing sizes and no wishlist items; but, please purchase at least one toy. Gifts may be wrapped or unwrapped, just be sure to label each item with the child’s name. If you would like to sponsor a child, but need elves to do the shopping, contact Gayle Edwards at 252.903.2782. You can access the Google sign up sheet by clicking here along with a list of suggested gifts by age; or you may select a tag from the basket in the narthex. Thank you in advance for supporting this heartwarming project that reminds us of the true spirit of Christmas.

Last but not least, Ripe Revival has invited GS to participate in its annual Christmas food box giveaway and packing event. This event will take place on Dec 20th at Rocky Mount Mills and is another outreach opportunity for all ages. The times are 9:30-12(all ages) and 1-4pm(older youth and adults as lifting will be involved.) For more information on this event contact Isabella Walker ([email protected])
