Dear OLG Families,
This Tuesday's return from our conferences & mid-winter (President's Day) break has been quite eventful! I apologize last Thursday the newsletter didn't go out, but today is a bit of a catch-up...
First of all, thank you so much for helping make winter conferences a success for all. There were over 100 conferences between teachers and parents last week and a few more "reschedules" still going on this week! I have heard from many parents how valuable the timing was for making the home and school connections and setup for success for the rest of the year. Thank you for your flexibility in helping us all partner in learning together.
On a different note, I want to acknowledge the heartache we experience as a Catholic community with the recent news coverage regarding Kennedy HS. I was upset by much of the social media coverage this weekend. The level of vitriol in some posts/comments was quite disturbing, but I am pleased to say that real, in-person conversations today that happened in some of our classrooms and hallways were very polite, structured, and beneficial. I know many parents took time today to either attend one of the organized gatherings, or to discuss with their child what this can mean and how to work together in positive ways. The worst we can do is
not talk about things, and so in conclusion, please continue to open the door for conversations with your child about what they've experienced today and in the days to come. Our prayers are with the teachers, and with the entire Kennedy community of which we have so many strong connections.
Within our parish, we have special news to share on the
Safe Parking program!
Many have noticed the new "hospitality hut" now constructed in the north end of our campus. Many teachers are working to have students walk the area this week and understand the program in light of their classroom learnings. We now have an official start-date of
February 24th. I appreciate all the support of this program as it continues to move forward under the consultative input of parish and school families! If your family would like to help, there are multiple ways to get connected with this parish program serving others. Please read on in the parish section below.
Finally, an

Caring for God's Creation
Sponsor one of God’s Creatures:
There are many organizations that make it possible to “adopt” an endangered species for a year. Your donations help support conservation efforts not only for the animal but also its environment. Check out becoming a zoo parent at the Woodland Park Zoo or adopting an animal with the National Wildlife Federation or World Wildlife Fund. Also makes a great gift!
