Dear Saint Families,

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and are looking forward to a prayerful Advent season! Thank you to all of our families who contributed to SaintsGiving today, and who have already made a donation to our Annual Fund. I am deeply thankful for the many ways you serve our school. Our families and benefactors are blessings to our school, and the many gifts you are able to share with us help deepen the faith of our children and community.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I wanted to share my Jesus Calling for today my Jesus calling states:

The best response to this glorious gift is a life steeped in thankfulness. Every time you thank Me, you acknowledge that I am your Lord and Provider. School Business

Early Dismissal

Tomorrow, Wednesday, November 28 is early dismissal. Pre-K and Kindergarten students are dismissed at 1:45 p.m., 1st - 5th graders are dismissed at 2:00 p.m., and Middle School is dismissed at 2:15 p.m. We have early dismissal once a month, typically on the last Wednesday of the month, to allow time for monthly faculty meetings. Typically on these days, students may wear school appropriate blue jeans and a StJPII spirit t-shirt or school sponsored t-shirt. Please refer to the Parent/Student Handbook for more guidelines. All early dismissal dates are posted on the school online calendar.

Giving Back through Service

The moral and character formation of students is a priority at StJPII. Thus, service to others and to the community is an essential part of the curriculum through the seven Corporal Works of Mercy. Each grade level participates in service projects during the year, as well as school-wide service projects. Through our service projects students are given the opportunity to share with others the gifts they have received.

In the spirit of thanks and giving first grade students wanted to bring bright smiles to the needy. They collected toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss and mouthwash. Upcycling with a Community Service

The Thursday morning, seventh-grade SOAR group of Hannah Dominy, Annabeth Dronet, and Victori a Tucker would like the StJPII community’s help with their project. The girls are hoping to create upcycled clothing from donated items, with a service twist. If you are planning to do some closet cleaning over the next few weeks, please consider donating gently used clothing to this project. Any clothing not used by the girls in their project will be donated to a charity, such as Star of Hope, the Gabriel Project, or Salvation Army.

Donation collections will run through Thursday, December 6 and can be dropped off in bins by the office or in room 423, the Journalism/SOAR room. Please consider donating to this creative and worthwhile project. Clothing accepted would be gently used children's, women's, or men’s shirts, pants, skirts, shorts, etc. Questions? Tomorrow is early dismissal, so that can only mean one thing...it's another StJPII Russo's Pizzeria Spirit Night! Dine in, delivery, or take out, 20% of all StJPII orders will be donated to back to our PTO. Used Uniform Sale

Did you know the Used Uniform Sale is a fundraiser for the 8th grade class? Stop by the used uniform sale on December 7 from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. in St. Jude Hall.

St. Katharine Drexel Society- Ladies Retreat

StJPII's new woman's group will be having their first retreat in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Please join us Wednesday, December 12 in St. Jude Hall from 8:30-10:30 a.m. We will have Fr. Eamonn Shelly lead us in a morning of prayer, reflection and worship, on this very special Feast day. RSVP to Edith Hernadez.

Dads Club-Men's Retreat

StJPII's Father’s Ministry is designed to focus on strengthening the fathers of our students in faith and love, to help them bring the Catholic faith home to their families, and support the mission of the school. As a father of a child(ren) at the school, you are a member of the Dads club. Our ministry includes retreats, Mass, and other events that enrich and encourage your faith and witness as a man of God, all in the model of St. Joseph. Our next retreat of the year will be at on December 4 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. in St. Jude Hall. All StJPII dads are invited to attend. Please RSVP to Assistant Principal Dr. Mike Weinman.

Mark your calendars for our “Snacks with Santa” event to be held Saturday, December 8 from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Santa photos, face painting, crafts and snacks will be available. Holiday on the Parkway 2018- Important Information

This year the St. John Paul II Catholic School PTO will sponsor a craft fair for parents and outside vendors on Friday, December 7 and Saturday, December 8 . Last year we had over 30 booths filling the Bramanti Athletic Center! The students, faculty and parents are able to shop for holiday presents for family and friends on Friday, and all are welcome to shop during the annual Snacks with Santa festivities on Saturday. If you are interested in reserving a table for your business or know someone that may be interested in having a booth, please complete the below form and send to the school as soon as possible, together with the booth reservation fee. The form can be hand delivered or mailed to St. John Paul II Catholic School, 1400 Parkway Plaza Drive, Houston, TX 77077, Attention: Olga Saenz (Holiday on the Parkway). Middle School

Our boys basketball teams are off and running. They have started their season with JV and Varsity at 1-2. Our Lady Saints JV team started their season with a win against St. Anne. Both the girls and boys play a heavy game season starting this week. Please be sure to check the Athletic calendar to come out and support our teams!

Training for Fitness Excellence is a class offered by Coach Laverne Jones-Ferrette OLY, a four time Olympian and 6th fastest of all time in the 60m dash! Starting on December 1, to all boys/girls 5-8th grade, Alumni, and parents. are invited. For more information click on the button below.

Did you know.... we have a Donor Wall in the BAC? This is updated weekly with all of our generous donors who give to the Annual Fund and to our Endowment Funds. We currently have three Endowment Funds: our general Endowment, the Hewitt-Jewett Endowment for Athletics, and the Donna Denton Endowment . Gifts given to the Endowment support each specific Endowment and gifts given to our Annual Fund help support our school's mission.

Our benefactors are direct blessings from the Lord. We pray gratefully in Mass and every day that the Lord will provide for all your needs, as you are doing for us.
