Arkansas State Board of Education's Special April Meeting: Important Updates and Decisions

LITTLE ROCK, AR - On Monday, April 14th, 2025, the Arkansas State Board of Education convened for a Special Meeting to discuss the request by Arkansas Military and First Responders Academy to Voluntarily Transfer Charter to Exalt Academy.

II. Action Agenda

II.1. Request by Arkansas Military and First Responders Academy to Voluntarily Transfer Charter to Exalt Academy

Presenter:  Darrell Smith, Assistant Commissioner

The board voted unanimously to approve the Arkansas Military and First Responders Academy’s (AMFA) request to transfer its charter to Exalt Academy. The decision was based on AMFA’s recent financial instability and the determination that continued independent operation was no longer viable. Exalt Academy was identified as a capable receiving entity for the charter.

Following this action, the board was required to vote on whether to review the Charter Authorizing Panel’s recommendation regarding the transfer. A motion “not to review” was introduced by board member Miss Woods and seconded by Miss Hunter. The motion passed unanimously, thereby affirming the panel’s recommendation without initiating a formal review process. This approval authorizes Exalt Academy to assume operational control of AMFA for the remainder of the academic year.

As part of its regular schedule, the State Board generally convenes on the second Thursday of each month to address issues impacting the educational landscape. Each meeting aims to consider, vote on, or generate orders related to agenda items.
