Special Thanks to Cinema Volunteers!
During National Volunteer Week
We wanted to take a moment during National Volunteer Week to share a special thanks to the many Cinema Arts Centre volunteers who make a wide range of deeply meaningful contributions to the Cinema Arts Centre.
Our
Board of Directors has been working double time during our temporary shutdown, adding their time, talent, and treasure to all of our efforts during this critical time. Board members have contributed to the Cinema's original virtual programming, have helped lead our vital fundraising efforts, have dedicated many hours to our renovation and reopening plans, and so much more. As we draw closer to having a clear reopening date, we are so grateful to our dedicated Board members who work so hard every day to make sure we are still here.
Over the past 13 months, our
Circle of Friends volunteers have made over 1,000 phone calls to Cinema Arts Centre members. Volunteers have made wellness calls to members at risk for being isolated. Volunteers have called members to make sure they know how to access our virtual programs and how to ask for assistance. And volunteers have made many calls to our members and donors to thank you for the generous support you have given through membership and
donations during this time that has been challenging for all of us. Circle of Friends also helped plan and promote our Awards Season Fundraiser, which culminates this Sunday at our
Academy Awards Watch Party. We are incredibly lucky to have a group of volunteers as close to us as our Circle of Friends.
Last year, event volunteers, including members of our Youth Advisory Board, helped with traffic management at our two drive-in movie presentations. One of our presentations was a free thank-you event for our Circle of Friends where we awarded The Dr. Frank B. Siegel Memorial Service Award to volunteer Jessica Ley. Previous recipients include Peggy Hendrix, and Dr. Joan Penrose-Borum.
Former Board Member and renowned artist
Isabel Pavao has taken on a wonderful project, contributing her great talent to create an art installation from the seat plaques that were removed from our old seats. We are finishing work in our theaters before we install our brand new seats (and brand new seat plaques.) Plaques from the old seats will have a home in our lobby, incorporated into a lasting piece of artwork in our lobby. We are so excited to keep you updated on this work, and so grateful to Isabel.
And we so miss all the volunteers who would come to our Sky Room Cafe and our physical office to stuff envelopes, do data entry, and all kinds of tasks that must get done. Our volunteers help us keep our overhead costs down so that the bulk of our funds are spent directly on programs for our community.
Thanks again to all our volunteers. You make our programs possible today. You made our programs possible yesterday. You make our programs possible tomorrow. And you help make us a community. That's a wonderful thing!
