COVID-19 Vaccine Guidance for Providers Released
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) Division of Immunizations Monday issued vaccine guidance for providers titled COVID-19 Vaccine Information for Providers.” This is a comprehensive document that covers important guidance for Michigan Providers with Michigan-specific information regarding the COVID-19 Vaccination Program. Another way to access this document directly is from the state's NEW provider COVID-19 vaccine webpage, then selecting “Provider Guidance and Education.”

Comprehensive New MDHHS Provider Webpage Offers Resources, Educational Materials
MDHHS has prepared a new COVID-19 Vaccine webpage for providers called the COVID-19 Vaccine Provider Guidance and Education Resources. This webpage will have valuable information to support COVID-19 Vaccine Providers in the successful implementation of the COVID-19 Vaccination Program. It will also be home to the live MDHHS COVID-19 Provider Toolkit. This toolkit is currently being worked on and as soon as it becomes available, we will get a message out. This webpage will be partnered with CDC to provide important and timely education as it is arriving. Bookmark this webpage and review it frequently for updates!

CDC Releases New COVID-19 Vaccine Training Module
CDC has released a new web-on-demand training module for healthcare providers, COVID-19 Vaccine Training: General Overview of Immunization Best Practices for Healthcare Professionals. This is a new self-paced module for healthcare providers that MDHHS is strongly recommending healthcare providers complete. This module provides healthcare providers with information about COVID-19 vaccine, safety and the Emergency Use Authorization (EUA), as well as general information about vaccine storage and handling, administration, and reporting. Continuing education is not available for this module, but a certificate of completion will be available.

Note: this does not meet the training standards for pharmacy professionals to administer vaccines under the HHS guidance to expand access to childhood vaccines during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Additional UPDATED/NEW CDC Resources
CDC’s Vaccine Storage and Handling Toolkit now includes an addendum with best practices and other resources to assist COVID-19 vaccination providers with proper storage and handling of COVID-19 vaccines. This addendum aims to help providers meet the requirements of the COVID-19 Vaccination Program Provider Agreement. The toolkit will be updated as COVID-19 vaccines are authorized or approved. You may sign up for email updates anytime the toolkit is updated.

This document serves as an interim playbook for state, territorial, tribal, and local public health programs and their partners about how to plan and operationalize a vaccination response to COVID-19 within their jurisdictions.

This document provides an update to the vaccine distribution plan as of Nov. 25. This supplement has detailed information on COVID-19 vaccine distribution, allocations and ordering to help inform your planning efforts. It includes four key topics:
1.      Allocation
2.      Ordering
3.      Receipt, storage and handling
4.      Operational norms
This newest version contains additional graphics that have been added for Vaccines A and B. The information within these sections will continue to evolve as new information becomes available.

National Flu Vaccination Week

Time: Noon to 1 p.m.

National Influenza Vaccination Week is Dec. 6-12. This week serves as a reminder that it is not too late to get an influenza vaccine this season! To celebrate this week, MDHHS is hosting a flu webinar from noon to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 8. The webinar will focus on the importance of influenza vaccine this season, second dose influenza reminders and communication strategies to increase flu vaccination coverage.
