D
ear Friends and Partners,
This evening, Mayor Durkan and residents and workers in the South Park and Georgetown neighborhoods came together to celebrate the release of a groundbreaking environmental justice and equitable development plan for the Duwamish Valley. I'm pleased to share it with you now.
Developed in partnership with the community and building off the work of the
Equity & Environment Initiative, the
Duwamish Valley Action Plan lays out
a series of
actions and strategies which will deliver measurable community health and well-being improvements for the residents and businesses in the Duwamish Valley.
The City of Seattle's--and Mayor Durkan's--commitment to racial equity and environmental justice is the foundation to this work.
The Action Plan leads with an environmental justice lens to elevate the voices and meet the needs of disproportionately affected groups to ensure everyone equitably reaps the benefits of current and future investments.
I invite you to check out the Action Plan and share your thoughts. While a tremendous amount of work went into developing this plan, as you know, the exciting part is just getting started!
I look forward to sharing more great news with you in future about our work in the Duwamish Valley.
Sincerely,
Jessica Finn Coven, Director
Seattle Office of Sustainability & Environment
