Introduction: Time to double-check the deadlines

Wrapping up the year involves a lot of important duties and immovable deadlines. With so much to do in a dwindling amount of time it's easy to drop things, so we're sending this special edition to underline some upcoming deadlines.

Many people remember that Open Enrollment continues through Jan. 15, 2023, but there are many dates to keep in mind.

-- Thursday, December 15, 2022, is the last day to enroll in or change plans for coverage to start January 1, 2023.

-- Sunday, January 1, 2023, is when coverage starts for those who enroll in or change plans by December 15, 2022, and paid their first premium.

-- Sunday, January 15, 2023, Last day to enroll in or change a 2023 health plan. After this date, you can enroll in or change plans only if you qualify for a special enrollment period.

-- Wednesday, February 1, 2023, is when coverage starts for those who enroll in or change plans Dec. 16, 2022, through January 15, 2023, and pay their first premium.

Please reach out to Enroll Wyoming ASAP if you have questions or want to work with us, especially if you want health insurance to start on Jan. 1

In the meantime, look for the regular edition of our newsletter next week!

What is Open Enrollment again?

Open Enrollment is the period when people can enroll, renew, or change health insurance plans through the Health Insurance Marketplace for 2023. The marketplace was established so more people can get health coverage, and incentives help make it more affordable for many individuals and families.

This year, Open Enrollment in the marketplace runs through Sunday, Jan. 15, 2023.

Enroll Wyoming provides free assistance to help Wyomingites find health coverage solutions, and this time of year that typically involves enrollment in the marketplace. Right now we are hosting office hours, making presentations, and meeting people one-on-one so we can highlight options. That way people can make informed decisions based on what fits their priorities.

Don't fall prey to scammers

Scammers never take a break. They just change tactics based on the season. They can use any opportunity to target people, and enrollment is no exception.

The Federal Trade Commission shared tips for those who are wrapping up Medicare enrollment, and we adapted them for those considering marketplace enrollment.

-- Don’t trust the name displayed on your phone. Scammers can fake a caller ID. Ask additional questions to confirm an identity.

Remember that Enroll Wyoming does not cold call people. If you did not reach out to us first (like emailing us or using our website to contact us), we will not call you out of the blue.

-- Hang up if anyone calls and asks for your Medicare, Social Security, or bank or credit card information. Don't engage with those who contact you unsolicited and start requesting personal information.

When Enroll Wyoming works with a person who wants to see what Health Insurance Marketplace plans may cost, we may ask for a limited amount of information to confirm their identity and see if they qualify for savings. However, that only occurs if the person initiated contact and decided to dig deeper into the marketplace.

-- Don’t be rushed into making a decision. You have until Jan. 15, 2023, to enroll, and the marketplace doesn’t offer extra benefits for signing up early.

-- Don’t talk to anyone that suggests their plan is preferred by the marketplace. The truth is that the marketplace doesn’t endorse a specific plan.

Be cautious of those who are pressuring you to make a decision.

-- Remember Enroll Wyoming offers its services for free. As a grant-funded nonprofit, there is no cost to work for us and we do not have sales incentives or quotas. We just want to put information in the hands of people who request it.

If you would like to file a fraud complaint, contact Consumer Affairs Specialist Ruth Case with the Wyoming Department of Insurance at 307-777-6556.

Did you catch our first livestream?

Enroll Wyoming has tried a lot of new things on social media this year and the latest addition is a livestream.

During the premiere event, Enroll Wyoming Project Director Jason Mincer

and Lead Navigator Dasa Robertson answered commonly asked questions and queries from the comments.

Thanks to those who either tuned in live or watched the archived video online.

Keep an eye out for updates on additional Enroll Wyoming livestreams.

Promoting men's health with mighty mustaches

Enroll Wyoming was proud to participate in the Movember men's health awareness mustache contest conducted by Wyoming Cancer Resource Services. It challenged people to grow their facial hair, share facts about testicular or prostate cancer, and use the hashtag #WCRSMovember22.

Our beloved mascot, Bandage Dan, entered the running to win a beard and mustache kit with the following entry.

While Dan struck a dashing appearance, we're happy the top prize went to a less pixelated person.

Checky out the many mustachioed participants here.

Would you like to take a survey?

The Wyoming Department of Health is looking for Wyoming residents between the ages of 18-29 who are willing to participate in the Public Health Division’s young adult survey.

Organizers said it provides a chance for people to share their thoughts and make a difference in their community.
