Dear friends
As we shared about in our May e-newsletter, we were asked as Oregon Interfaith Power &. Light to help organize an interfaith delegation to Minnesota next weekend, June 5–8, for the Treaty People Gathering to stop the Line 3 pipeline that crosses Anishinaabe land and would transport tar sands to market. We have at least 7 people from Oregon joining the interfaith delegation, several others from Washington, and over 100 people from the Pacific Northwest planning to attend the main Treaty People Gathering.
Would you like to be involved? Please see this Distributed Action Guide to learn about how you can host worship, education, advocacy, and activist actions to support the call to cancel the Line 3 pipeline. You can plan your own Action Hour to educate your faith community about the Line 3 pipeline and to take action (the Action Hour link has a step-by-step guide for planning your event). Here are some other ways you can support the interfaith delegation:
-
Donate to the transportation fund. OIPL members are organizing vans from Portland and Eugene for everyone who wants to travel with us. Help make this action affordable to everyone who wants to go! This is a tax deductible donation.
-
Donate to the interfaith delegation. There are over 200 people registered for the interfaith delegation! We'll be staying at a summer camp. $250 covers one person's lodging and food. Can you help?
-
Host a solidarity action with your faith community. See the linked document for ideas. This could be a worship element or educational opportunity, a letter writing session, a march or demonstration
-
Sign this letter to President Biden.
-
Follow and share about the action as it unfolds on social media: #stopline3, #TreatyPeopleGathering, and #Faiths4Climate.
We appreciate your prayers as we travel, participate in this action, and for our leaders to make choices leading toward a just and sustainable future.
