A NOTE FROM SUPERVISOR LEAH VALENTI

Dear Charlotte County Voter,

We are reaching out to inform you of the preparations for the upcoming 2023 City of Punta Gorda election and the 2024 Presidential races. Since being appointed by Governor DeSantis on January 30th, my team and I have been diligently working to ensure our registration list is accurate and up to date, as mandated by Florida Statutes 98.065 and 98.075. These laws guide us in maintaining correct addresses of legal residence for registered voters, eliminating duplicate records, and removing ineligible voters. Your prompt response to any mailings from us is greatly appreciated.

Aside from our mailings, we also utilize social media and a monthly newsletter to keep you informed about upcoming elections. If you haven't already, we encourage you to follow us on Nextdoor, Facebook, and Twitter for the latest updates. Should you have any questions or concerns about the information provided in this newsletter or anything else related to voting, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at 941-833-5400 or soe@soecharlottecountyfl.gov.

Your active participation in our democratic process is invaluable, and we are grateful for your attention to this matter. Your involvement helps strengthen our community and ensures a vibrant democracy for all.

Thank you for being an engaged Charlotte County voter!

FLORIDA IS A CLOSED PRIMARY STATE. WHAT DOES THAT MEAN FOR THE VOTER?

Florida is a closed primary state, which means only registered voters who are members of a specific political party can participate in that party's primary elections. This means that if you are a registered Republican, you can only vote in the Republican primary, and if you are a registered Democrat, you can only vote in the Democratic primary.

What this means to you and how it impacts your vote: If you are registered as an independent or with no party affiliation, you won't be able to vote in either party's primary. However, you can still participate in the general election, where candidates from all parties compete for public office.
