Introduction to Quantitative Spectroscopy for Quality Assurance in the R&D and Manufacturing Environments
November 15; 8:30am – 5:00pm
Instructor: Deborah A. Peru, DP Spectroscopy and Training, LLC
Course Description:
This course is based on industrial experience in developing quantitative spectroscopy methods for use in quality-by-design scale-up, process monitoring & control, and quality assurance testing. Topics discussed include common measurement errors, procedure design, spectral preprocessing, wavelength selection strategies, equation development, and lifecycle procedure management. Each lesson includes case study examples to emphasize key principles. Participants can observe, ask questions, and learn how to develop quantitative methods. The information can be applied to the development of quantitative procedures using Ultraviolet, Visible, near-infrared, mid-Infrared, and Raman instruments. A live demonstration of common pitfalls and spectral data anomalies illustrates how statistics and principal component analysis provide guidance during both the development and ongoing stages of model maintenance. Practical NMR Spectroscopy
November 16; 8:30am – 5:00pm
Instructor: Damodaran Achary, University of Pittsburgh
Course Description:
NMR spectroscopy is a powerful analytical tool. There are multitude of techniques suitable for many analytical problems beyond routine 1H/13C spectra. This course will focus on practical skills related to acquiring and interpreting NMR data without hardcore theory/equations. Tips and tricks for acquisition and data processing to get the best out of your spectrometer will be taught. Interpretation of 1D & 2D data to assign functional groups, atom connectivity and structural assignment will be shown. Learn to choose the right experiments for your problem. Overall, this course will prepare you to engage the spectrometer and analyze NMR data with confidence. Click here for more details
Collecting Infrared Spectra and Avoiding the Pitfalls
November 18; 8:30am – 5:00pm
Instructors: Ellen Miseo, Miseo Consulting & Jeff D’Agostino, Specac, Inc.
Course Description:
Users of FT-IR spectrometers may have received little or no formal training in spectroscopy and therefore cannot distinguish between “good” and “bad” spectra. In this course, we will show many of the problems that are commonly encountered with FT-IR spectra measured by users and show how to avoid them. Problems can appear from the instrument, the sample accessory, post processing and the sample itself. We will discuss all the potential sources of errors. We also will have a hands-on component where the principles will be demonstrated on a commercial instrument including accessory sampling errors and improper data processing. We will also discuss “tips and tricks” that may never be found in a book but make your analysis easier. Click here for more details
