A Note from the Board
OUTSIDE THE LINES
(April 2023)

Our accomplishment stories rolled out in the past two issues of Spectrum. We appreciate the reviews and feedback from readers… so we are back with another chapter.

The excitement is building for the Best of the Northwest Spring show, and we are very anxious to share that event with you! Best of the Northwest is more than a name, it is a showcase of regional talent with artists who take colors, textures, design, materials, and techniques as inspiration for creativity.

While NWAA stretches to reach, connect, or inspire on many fronts, our primary focus continues to be the amazing art shows with an event in every season. The Spring Best of the Northwest show is a celebration of success and resiliency with a fabulous group of artists! We applaud the creativity and focus of each artist who continued to create despite world challenges of the past few years. We welcome the patrons, collectors and art lovers who return (or join us for the first time) to support these creative artists.
“Rock, Paper, Scissors” artist Cheryl Brown offers her perspective on the shows. “I look forward to each show where I can share my latest bird collage creations. The value of these shows was a primary reason that I became a member of the NWAA Board of Directors where I knew that my efforts could benefit other artists.”

Mixed Media by Cheryl Brown

Each type of media, from painters to sculptors or jewelry artists are present at each of these shows. While familiar faces may be present, you can always expect new creative art expressions to be on display. Board member, Laura Colman, has a gallery-like feel in her Seattle home. Laura says “My house needs more walls to display the lovely art I have acquired over a lifetime of thoughtful collecting. I attend every show to seek out one more treasurer to add to my inventory of color, design, artists, and inspiration.”  Of course, Laura will be at the Best of the Northwest Show on April 15 and 16 wearing a NWAA apron and a colorful name tag. If you see her there, she will tell you (or show you) about a new treasure she found at the show.

Thank you for your interest and support.

Donation Drive
DONATIONS MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Northwest Art Alliance's mission and goals include expanding general and targeted outreach to all communities and artists to better serve artists' needs and help sustain support for their vocation. NWAA connects artists to the broader community through its shows. Artists would not have this critical exposure without this connection.

Northwest Art Alliance normally produces 3 or more in-person shows each year with a than 1000 artists represented during the last 3 years (unduplicated count). NWAA pivoted to virtual shows and other features to help artists sell their work during the pandemic. And now is using those skills to bring the organization into the future. NWAA needs community support and donations to continue its mission. Please consider a tax-deductible donation to this non-profit organization and click here. Thank you for your continued support of the Best of the Northwest shows!

NWAA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit.

Artist Opportunities
KNKX SEATTLE STATION MURALS PROJECT
KNKX, Seattle's public radio station, is seeking two mural artists to create original works for its new office and station in the Pike Place Market neighborhood in Seattle, Washington. This opportunity includes two locations for artwork: an exterior wall adjacent to the entryway (8’x10’) and an interior wall flanking the station lounge area (approximately 22’x 8’).
This opportunity is open to established and early career artists with the skill and interest to create large-scale paintings in Seattle, Washington, during June-July 2023. KNKX’s roots in the Pacific Northwest run deep, with a history of bringing jazz, blues, news, and regional storytelling to our region for over 50 years. The new location, in the heart of downtown reflects our commitment to continuing this legacy, and the on-site artwork should also reflect one or more elements of this commitment. Artists should also be able to convey a strong connection to Seattle and/or the Puget Sound region during the application process.

Each of these murals is meant to stand alone as their own unique works that convey the vibrancy and diversity of the place we live, embracing authentic creative expression by artists from a variety of different identities, backgrounds and experiences. Not only do we believe that art is critical to the quality of life; we believe that it’s an essential part of the service we provide to our community. We seek works that will reflect these values as central to the experience of visiting and working in the KNKX space. This is a unique paid opportunely for 2+ artists.
