We are excited to announce this 3-day event with a grand Preview Gala on Friday, November 10, doors opening to the public starting at 3pm. Building on the success of last year's Gala, special event tickets can be purchased to be the first to see and buy from the artists. With their ticket, patrons receive a glass of Martedi Cellars wine, free appetizers from Metro Market, a ticket for a prize drawing of gift certificates for artwork and can enjoy live music while they shop. Food is provided by Sand Point Metropolitan Market for the Gala's appetizers. Artists are served a free Pagliacci pizza and salad dinner before the Gala opens.

The following 2 days, the show will open at 10am until 6pm on Sat and 5pm on Sun. In response to artist requests, the admission prices are reduced, and more free passes will be distributed. Seattle food trucks are onsite during these days. Children's art activity and a special exhibit will also be featured. Best of the Northwest Show Review
The 34th annual Best of the Northwest Spring show was held April 15 & 16.

Thank you to everyone who helped make the Best of the Northwest Spring Show a huge success. With 115 artists and thousands of patrons, Hangar 30 was bustling with creativity and new art purchases.

We enjoyed seeing many returning artists and welcoming new artists from Oregon to Southern California. Several artists told us it was their best Spring Show.

CraftLab joined us for the first time, offering engaging craft making activities for children. Everyone enjoyed the wide selection of food from the food trucks and we were thrilled to have Mexicuban at the event for the first time.

2 Emerging Artist Program winners were exhibiting for the first time. This program is so important to nurture new artists in their creative journey.

Thank you to our artists, vendors, volunteers, and staff for creating this spectacular event. We look forward to seeing you all again in the Fall!
A Note from the Board
OUTSIDE THE LINES
(May 2023)

Volunteers!

There is so much to celebrate about 2022, how is it possible that we are already well into 2023. Our accomplishment stories rolled out in the past three issues of Spectrum. Before we miss some of the exciting milestones, we wanted to stop and thank volunteers who help make many of the activities, programs and events happen. Let’s bring visibility to several of our volunteers.

John – A longtime volunteer who coordinates volunteers for NWAA shows and so much more. Almost invisible but extremely valuable, John gathers a team to bring shows to reality. Our shows could not happen without the volunteers who help with set-up, greeting, booth sitting, take-down and everything in between.

Mandy – A longtime volunteer who built the NWAA website and helps to maintain the content. She is a photography artist with an eye for detail and dramatic landscapes.

Edge of the Earth by Amanda Paul
“Small Community” Teams – While NWAA brings visibility to the art within the region, it is the behind the scenes work of volunteers that gather information from each small community, recruit artists, and work with us prior to the rollout in our newsletter and website.
Board of Directors – a group composed of people who value art and community service. This is our group, and we would unanimously agree that volunteer efforts are making a difference. What a great mix to find opportunities for these “pieces of the puzzle” to come together. We are focused on adding two additional members in 2023 and hope you will consider filling in the gaps to our puzzle design.

We always need volunteers who can contribute articles to SPECTRUM newsletter or help us move in new directions. Are you interested in being part of this amazing team? Send us an email to “[email protected]” and we can add you to the event volunteer sign-up list (get to know John) or find a volunteer match with one of our projects or provide information on membership on the Board of Directors or something else.

Thank you to all who volunteered in the past and thanks in advance for the future.

In Memoriam
Laurie Mortinsen
Laurie with husband, David Lefebvre
We lost one of the Best of the Northwest show founders and shareholder, Laurie Mortinsen. Laurie was an amazing soul and a kind-hearted person who sadly lost her battle with cancer in March. She was an artist who was also an art collector and had a strong presence in the PNW art community.

Laurie was a native Seattleite. She and Dave Lefebvre were married April fool’s day, which I believe was the anniversary of their first date.

Laurie was a jeweler and her first show was at the Oregon Country Fair. She learned how to make glass enameled beads from some artist friends and eventually started to sell her work at the Pike Place Market. Later, she joined Best of the Northwest shows, and continued to exhibit. Then she continued to exhibit at the Best of the Northwest, Oregon County Fair and the Ballard and Redmond farmer’s markets until the Covid pandemic.

Laurie loved art and her art friends. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh. She enjoyed her life with friends and family and loved her and Dave's four grandchildren.

She fought hard against her cancer, and continued to spend time with her friends, including on Vashon Island, where they had bought property and were planning to develop. She was dearly loved and will be missed!

A memorial service will be held at:
Om Culture Wallingford
2210 N Pacific St, Seattle, WA 98103
Saturday October 28th from 1 to 5 pm

Donation Drive
DONATIONS MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Northwest Art Alliance's mission and goals include expanding general and targeted outreach to all communities and artists to better serve artists' needs and help sustain support for their vocation. NWAA connects artists to the broader community through its shows. Artists would not have this critical exposure without this connection.

Northwest Art Alliance normally produces 3 or more in-person shows each year with more than 1000 artists represented during the last 3 years (unduplicated count). NWAA pivoted to virtual shows and other features to help artists sell their work during the pandemic. And now is using those skills to bring the organization into the future. NWAA needs community support and donations to continue its mission. Please consider a tax-deductible donation to this non-profit organization and click here. Thank you for your continued support of the Best of the Northwest shows!

NWAA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit.

Our guild's annual fundraiser, a large luncheon and auction event titled 'Art a la Carte', has been paused for 2020 to 2022. We look forward to future events when we will again work to support Seattle Children's Hospital."
