Spectrum School Carnival & Walk
In celebration of Autism Awareness Month, Spectrum Charter School hosted a Carnival Walk. Families and students, past and present, were invited to enjoy free carnival games, popcorn and Kona Ice. In spite of rain and high winds festivities were enjoyed by all and the carnival continued inside. One of the highlights of the carnival was teachers being sprayed with silly string. This was a new tradition that will be continued each year.
Thank you to all who participated and donated!!

Spectrum’s Class of 2021
This year Spectrum Charter School’s graduating class of 2021 is Evan, Desiree, Connor, Cameron, and Leila. Most of these students have been a part of Spectrum Charter School for the past several years. They have been a part of the Spectrum Community and will be greatly missed. Several of the graduates are going to be entering the workforce after graduation, and a few others will be looking into continuing their education at a local community college. The staff and students at Spectrum Charter School wish the graduating class of 2021 the best of luck in their future endeavors.

Our YouTube Committee has been working hard putting together a presentation for younger students. We developed a Google Slides presentation about an alien, Sherbertie, who wants to learn about snow. This is an origin story about Winter, with plans to create a story for Spring, Summer and Fall.

Chelsea, a student in Mrs. Yurkovich’s class, has been volunteering at Magic Mike’s Car Wash and Concordia Nursing home. Thank you, Chelsea, for doing a great job!

Safety Day
On Friday May 21st, Spectrum Charter School hosted a Safety Day! This was an excellent opportunity for our students to learn about various fields that have a focus on public safety and first responders. Students heard presentations by volunteer firefighters, PA State Police, EMS, the sheriff’s department and Blue Line Security. UPMC and Allegheny Health Network also be shared with the students about careers in health care such as doctor, nurse, or lab technician. Students had an opportunity to hear about the services these agencies provide and careers associated with them. After the presentations, students and staff moved outside to explore the emergency vehicles and engage with agency representatives one-one-one to ask further questions. At the conclusion of the event, a lunch was provided for students, staff and participants. We are looking forward to hosting more Safety Days in the future!

Summer Fun
After taking a survey of the staff and students at Spectrum Charter School, we found that many people are heading to the beach this summer or visiting with family members! Staff and students are heading to beaches in Florida, Maryland, New Jersey, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Puerto Rico, and Mexico. They are visiting family in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Ohio, New York, New Hampshire, and Michigan.
Some activities planned are swimming, kayaking, biking, riding a train, playing video games, and using a 2-D printer. Other trips include visiting Baltimore, MD, Los Angeles, CA, a treehouse in Pennsylvania and a cabin in Virginia. Someone is moving to Ohio and someone else is moving to Florida!
In addition, many staff and students are working or attending Extended School Year at Summer Camp at Spectrum (SCS). Let’s all have a fun and safe summer!
