Key Highlights from the 2023 Federal Budget

There were some areas in the recent budget that could significantly impact people with Disabilities and their families.
The Canada Disability Benefit Act Unanimously Voted to Pass

The Canada Disability Benefit Act (Bill C-22) is on it's way to becoming a reality. The benefit is a tax-free, monthly top up to ODSP to help bring low-income Canadians with disabilites out of poverty.
Specific details will be worked out once the bill comes into force, but disability advocates are optimistic about how much this is going to help the disability community. The fact that the benefit will be indexed for inflation will allow for greater flexibility in housing and basic needs.
New Recommendations for Physical Activity for
Disabled Young People

There have long been recommendations in place for the amount of activity people should do to stay healthy, but until recently, they didn't take into consideration young people with disabilities. After studying data from 176 studies, recommendations have been offered for a wide range of young people,
aged 2-17. The physical activity guidelines for disabled young people even consulted 250 disabled youth on how best to encourage other young people to engage in regular physical activity.
