We are bringing back our monthly e-newsletter that will serve as an informative, educational and entertaining way to highlight how essential parks and recreation is to our community. This newsletter will go out on the first Friday of every month and feature information on upcoming programs, events, deadlines and opportunities through LPR. We encourage you to share information from this newsletter with your neighbors, friends, and co-workers, and encourage them to sign up to receive our newsletter and become an LPR supporter like you.

Warmer weather is coming… there is light at the end of the tunnel. In a time where we are virtual-everything, people need a place to safely recreate. There is no better plan than your local park(s). Liberty Parks & Rec takes pride in creating spaces for social, mental, physical and emotional wellbeing.

Thanks to the approval of a Use Tax by Liberty voters, we have been busy over the last several years making improvements to our neighborhood parks system. We are nearing completion on the neighborhood projects and making a lot of progress on the rejuvenation of City Park (see below), which will be open later this spring/early summer.

We appreciate your continued support and encourage you to get outdoors and enjoy the parks and trails in Liberty.

City Park Update
The crews at the City Park project made great progress over the last couple of weeks. The sprayground water features were installed, as well as more of the playground equipment. We are now getting bids on plumbing and electrical and the surfacing company is waiting for the weather to cooperate so they can level out and start putting down gravel.

The new City Park will feature a wide variety of play pieces that will meet the needs of many abilities and create a socially-inclusive play space for all children.

Please remember that this is an active construction zone. While many of the play amenities have been installed, the park is CLOSED.

R.L., a long time bus rider and Silver Center attendee, was really noticing a health decline since the pandemic started. She called and set up a schedule to return to her exercise class using the Liberty Access bus. In conversation we learned that when her daughter moved, she started experiencing some food insecurity. Staff let her know that Meals on Wheels would be happy to help with getting her a hot meal every day. She is now attending classes three times a week and receiving Meals on Wheels every day. Both her physical and mental health have improved greatly since utilizing all Community Services has to offer.

Egg-Apalooza Drive-Thru!

COVID-19 has turned planning special events on its head. Liberty Parks & Rec (LPR) and Liberty Hospital will not host Big Bunny Bash in the usual way this year. Our traditional egg hunt plans may have been cracked but LPR will host an “egg-apalooza” drive-thru to hand out bags of toy and candy filled eggs so you can have an egg hunt at home.

  • March 27
  • Liberty Community Center
  • 10 a.m.- until eggs are gone

Hello! My name is Mallory and I am the newest team member to Liberty Parks & Rec. I bring 7+ years of local government experience having worked in Community Development for another local municipality. I am very passionate about local government and enjoy interacting with the public, working through the complexities of the planning and development process and helping to make the community better for residents and visitors alike.

I was born and raised in a suburb of Detroit, Michigan and relocated to the Kansas City region to attend the University of Missouri – Kansas City, where I received a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies. I currently live in Liberty with my husband Josh, daughters Addison and Tessa, and son Clayton. The opportunity to work in the community that I call home is something I am very excited about and look forward to helping the Parks & Rec Department continue to create community connections to provide the highest quality parks, program, services and facilities that make Liberty the prosperous and healthy community that we know and love.
