Speed Manufacturing and Assembly

This slide product’s ability to self-align speeds the manufacturing and assembly process. Its floating load plate automatically adjusts misalignment.

 Properly ground load plates—rather than the less expensive and lower-quality stamped plates—provide greater control over load-bearing capabilities and precision accuracy of the unit. By designing the load plates with a circular arch contact to the ball element, you get the result of greater dispersion of the entire load, which enables the linear bushing to provide up to three times greater load capacity than typical linear bushings. This equates to more than 27 times the travel life over conventional slide bushings. Newer, optimized load plates have been developed for optimum load-bearing capabilities that are another 1.3 time higher, which increases travel life by 2.2 times.

Tip 1: Use pre-assembled components.

This eliminates error and readjustments, reduces size and will outperform conventional positioning tables. There is a tremendous choice of component shapes and sizes available in pre-assembled units.


Tip 2: Choose a U-shaped guide rail slide block. 

The "U" shaped guide rail and slide block provide the multiple functions of a guide block and ball screw nut combined into a single unit. 


Tip 3: For best rigidity, choose the 4 ball circuit style slide block. 

Also, the "U" shaped guide rail offers high rigidity against bending moment and can even be cantilevered.


Tip 4: Provision for mounting sensors.

Be sure you have the option of specifying a sensor-mounting rail (the same length as the guide rail length). Then photomicro sensors or proximity sensors can be attached after tapped holes are machined on both sides of the guide rail.


Tip 5: Look for a supplier that has in-house engineering.

They’ve dealt with innumerable applications and can prevent unintended consequences.

Two? Four? Six?

Grooves in the Shaft  


The number of grooves in a spline shaft can range from two to six. While more grooves and bearings increase the load capability, in some cases, six grooves take up so much space on the shaft, there is no room for the ball bearings to recirculate. Therefore, the nut must protrude from the shaft so the balls can recirculate above and away from the shaft . Also, because balls will fall out of the nut if the nut and shaft are separated, these types of six-groove shafts must be handled with great care. 



The most common shaft configuration has four grooves, giving the nut enough space to have side by side active and recirculating paths, making it a more compact assembly compared to six-groove shafts.
