Employee Spotlight
EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR- SHAWN KING

Arkansas Valley Electric believes in serving its members to the utmost level of excellence. The cooperative is more than an electric company serving a product. The cooperative believes that it is not the service that makes us successful; it is the people.

Each year, cooperative employees nominate fellow co-workers for the employee of the year award. Three finalists are chosen and voted by peers. CEO Al Simpson announces the winner.
Shawn King is a Systems Coordinator for the cooperative, where he assists in planning and scheduling engineering projects across AVECC's territory. These projects consist of relay programming, substation testing, equipment maintenance schedules, load analysis, etc. He also oversees the testing and maintenance of commercial metering accounts.
On Oct. 12, 2021, King was named the Arkansas Valley Electric Employee of the Year.
"I was surprised to learn I was even nominated," says King. "Wes and Cindy are great employees that I get to work with on a daily basis, and to be nominated with them and win is humbling."
King continues, "To be voted for this award by my peers is an honor. It means you've made a positive impact around you and with the people you work with. There are so many people at AVECC that do such a good job. I know that everyone deserves to be recognized."
Engineering and Operations Director Barret Ewing states, "It comes as no surprise to me that his fellow employees would recognize Shawn for this award. His hard work and dedication to Arkansas Valley, our members, and his fellow employees are shown through his actions daily. He values teamwork and is willing to contribute in any way possible to make Arkansas Valley a stronger team."
Simpson shares, "Shawn King made a lasting impression on many employees shortly after being hired. As a highly skilled substation technician, his character is his best attribute. He earns the respect of his peers by being humble and helpful. He comes to work every day with a contagious positive attitude. This honor is well- deserved, and Shawn accepts it with a humble heart."
Congratulations, Shawn!

Energy Efficiency Tip of the Month
Wave Rural Connect is the choice for  Symmetrical Speed Gigabit Fiber Internet!
You may hear us talk about Gigabits a lot. But what does that mean? First, it’s important to know that whenever refers to Gigabits, we are referring to internet speed, not a data package with your cell phone plan. WAVE Rural Connect fiber internet service will never have data caps or data throttling – you may use as much as data as you wish on a monthly basis.
Internet speed is calculated on the amount of data processed per second – called Megabits per second, or Mbps. We will offer two different speed options: 100 Mbps or 1 Gbps. 1 Gigabit per second is equal to 1,000 Mbps per second.  With either speed option, you will be able to run multiple devices – such as... continue reading
