Working hard on our 105th home
Last Saturday, our Build Committee and Granite Construction volunteers worked a full day on our 105th home! They installed the Blue Board, fascia trim, front door, most of the windows, and so much more. We are grateful for their time and efforts building this home! Dina Sosa and her family continue to work hard toward her required number of sweat equity hours as well.

Yesterday, several volunteers from one of our corporate sponsors, Greystar, spent the day putting the siding up on the Sosa Family's future home. Greystar employees reached out to us a few months ago with a desire to give back to their community through Habitat, and we were so blessed to begin this partnership with them. All the help and support we and our partner families receive from the community is so inspiring!
On October 20, the 2021 Interfaith Build Celebration, hosted by Trietsch Memorial United Methodist Church with Denton County Judge Andy Eads as the Master of Ceremonies, launched Habitat's 106th build alongside ten local faith organizations.

Faith leaders introduced their congregations' core beliefs and why they choose to serve on the Interfaith Build. Rev. Karen Chraska, Associate Pastor of Worship Arts at Trietsch, also directed "The Chancel Choir at Trietsch and Friends" in a few selections from their recent Rejoice Concert.

We are inspired by the strong sense of community, tolerance, and service established at this event, and we can't wait to get this build started for a deserving family in just a few weeks!

The Habitat for Humanity Interfaith Build is founded on the belief that every faith can be put into action. Putting God’s love into action is a ministry of inclusion. In bringing people together, regardless of religious affiliation, we become agents of peace and reconciliation.

Special thanks to the ten faith organizations that have joined together to build and sponsor the home: Baha’i Faith Center, Creekwood Christian Church, Faith Lutheran Church, Flower Mound United Methodist Church, Islamic Association of Lewisville/Flower Mound, Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, The Village Church, and Trietsch Memorial United Methodist Church.

On Saturday, October 23, we offered a free financial education class for the community. Many Habitat homeowners attended, as well as several members of the community interested in preparing their finances for homeownership. Participants had the opportunity to receive door prizes like Starbucks gift cards, cleaning baskets, and more. We were fortunate to be able to offer the class in both English and Spanish at the same time, thanks to Greater Denton/Wise County Association of Realtors' hospitality and English and Spanish guest speakers from Celanese.

The class broke off into Spanish and English groups. Pictured above is the Spanish class.

We specifically highlight our ReStore Manager, Kevin Sample. Mr. Sample is a former U.S. Navy second-class petty officer, having served in all three Gulf Wars. Some time after serving, he was homeless for nine months. After a lot of hard work and perseverance to get back on his feet, Kevin Sample was hired for his first position at the ReStore as a Warehouse Associate.

Now, Mr. Sample advocates in the community for veterans and homelessness, speaking most recently at the "Ending Veteran Homelessness Community Celebration" hosted by the Denton County Homeless Coalition this summer. Mr. Sample enjoys being a part of these local efforts to be able to let these organizations know that he is "the product of all their hard work." We are grateful for all the work he does for Habitat and our community!
As mentioned above, please join us at the ReStore for the Pet-Friendly Halloween Spectacular on Saturday, October 30, from 9AM-6PM at 1805 Cornell Lane in Denton. Bring your pets in costume to win some great prizes! Plus, shop special sales all day long and get extra discounts when you come in costume.
