Greenway 5K a Huge Success

We are thrilled that so many people came out on Sunday, August 12 for a fantastic Greenway 5K. More than 100 folks of all ages joined us as we walked, ran, and celebrated the Spicket River Greenway. Here are photos from the event, and here are final times.

A big thanks to lead sponsor New Balance Foundation for their continued support of Groundwork and our shared mission of promoting health and  wellness for children and families.

Thank you, as well, to the Professional Center for Child Development and Lawrence General Hospital for their generous support.

Save the date for next year - August 11, 2019!

Green Streets Crew Plants 400+ Trees

This summer, the GWL Green Streets crew planted 407 trees in Lawrence. Green Streets is an innovative initiative that aims to reduce energy consumption by drastically increasing the urban tree canopy in Lawrence. This helps counter the urban heat island effect, effectively cooling down streets and neighborhoods. Check out this Eagle Tribune article, profiling the success of Green Streets.

The Green Streets crew is gearing up for their fall planting season, offering free trees to residents in the South Common, Arlington, and Colonial Heights neighborhoods. If you live in one of these neighborhoods and you're interested in learning how easy it is to get a free tree, please contact us today
