James, the brother of John the Evangelist, was the first Apostle to be martyred. He was beheaded by order of Herod of Agrippa. The Gospels tell us that the two brothers left their father, Zebedee, and followed Jesus as soon as He called out to them.

On July 26 the Roman Catholic Church commemorates the parents of the Virgin Mary, Saints Joachim and Anne. The couple's faith and perseverance brought them through the sorrow of childlessness, to the joy of conceiving and raising the immaculate and sinless woman who would give birth to Christ.

"Jesus loved Martha, and her sister Mary, and Lazarus" (John 11:5). Saint Martha is mentioned in three Gospel passages: Luke 10:38-42, John 11:1-53, and John 12:1-9, and the type of friendship between her and her siblings, Mary and Lazarus, with the Lord Jesus is evident in these passages.

St. Peter Chrysologus ministered in a recently Christianized society, meaning he had to reach out to faithful Catholics, the remaining pagans, and newly minted heretics.  

In both legal courts and the court of public opinion, gun rights advocates have been making significant advances. In 2008, the U.S. Supreme Court held that the second amendment entails an individual right to possess a firearm for lawful purposes, including self-defense within one's home. Public opinion has also shifted in recent years.

So, as a new Catholic, my curiosity was sparked. What exactly are the Catholic Church's arguments against the use of contraceptives? About a year after joining the Catholic Church, I heard about a Catholic educational program for women called Endow.
