God bless the USA! Happy Independence Day

Mass today is at 8:30 AM in the Church.

Today as Americans we are blessed to be able to celebrate and pray for our nation in a special way.

We also have an inspiring lineup of saints this week, very notably St. Maria Goretti, a particular model and intercessor for purity and true, brave love for others in this age of indecency and use of others.

Also - Tomorrow is the LAST CHANCE to register your child for Vacation Bible School.

Here is your weekly update for what's going on in the parish.

Special Message from Father Strebler

A priest, a minister, and a rabbit walk into the Red Cross. The worker says, “Before you give blood, we have to know your blood type.” The rabbit replies, “I am certain that I am a type-o.”

We don’t have a minister but we have a priest and a typo.  In my bulletin column of July 3, there was a major typo--doesn’t it always happen that if you make a typo, it is not an incidental word, but a word that changes the meaning of the sentence?

The sentence that read,

"I rejoice that such a contentious issue is not returned to the states to decide."

Should read,

"I rejoice that such a contentious issue is now returned to the states to decide."

I hope this clears things up, but I also hope that, knowing me, you probably figured that out on your own.

St. Anthony Mary Zaccaria

"Church life in Cremona had suffered decline in the late 15th and early 16th centuries. The new priest encountered widespread ignorance and religious indifference among laypersons, while many of the clergy were either weak or corrupt."

Learning Forgiveness from St. Maria Goretti

"Although Maria Goretti is remembered for her violent death as a martyr for holy purity, she is a saint because of the way she lived, and especially for the forgiveness she gave Alessandro before she died."

A July 4 remembrance of America’s Catholic Founding Father

"Some historians today regard Maryland as the birthplace of religious freedom in what would become the United States, and say that colonial Maryland’s story demonstrates the fragility of religious liberty and the need for vigilance in maintaining it."

"Almighty God: We make our earnest prayer that Thou wilt keep the United States in Thy holy protection; that thou wilt incline the hearts of the citizens to cultivate a spirit of subordination and obedience to government, and entertain a brotherly affection and love for one another and for their fellow-citizens of the United States at large. And finally that Thou wilt most graciously be pleased to dispose us all to do justice, to love mercy and to demean ourselves with that charity, humility and pacific temper of mind which were the characteristics of the Divine Author of our blessed religion without a humble imitation of whose example in these things we can never hope to be a happy nation. Grant our supplication, we beseech Thee, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen."
