From Pastor Kevin's Desk

Spirit of Hope Lutheran Church community,

A friendly reminder that signups for short meetings before and after Saturday and Sunday worship remain in the Narthex. These are short 5-minute introductory meetings where I simply want to hear from you. I encourage you to sign up for this time to come and share. This is an important part of my getting to know you all and beginning to hear your stories.

Additionally, the Spirit of Hope office hours are as follows:

  • Closed Sunday (Worship at 9:30AM with fellowship after service)
  • Closed Monday
  • Tuesday: 9:00AM – 5:00PM
  • Wednesday: 12:00PM – 5:00PM
  • Thursday: 9:00AM – 5:00PM
  • Friday: 9:00AM – 5:00PM

Items needed: backpacks, snacks (ex. chips and bars), personal hygiene (ex. fun soaps, nice smelling lotions, body sprays), gift cards to fast-food restaurants.

The Hunger Jar:

Donations during October will be used for Fast-food restaurants gift cards that will be added to the Shoe Box Ministry.

God Bless everyone who helps with the projects that serve those in need in our community.

Community Support – Helping Students at Skyline High School

Our “Shoebox” Collection ministry has changed this year. We will be working with the Cares Team at Skyline High School to help high school students in need. The Cares Team at Skyline, which includes Mesa Police Department Sgt. Cervantes (school resource officer), school nurse, some administration, the school psychologist, behavior coach, and counselors, works closely to support students with a variety of needs at the school.

We will be supporting this team by providing items that Cares Team can offer to these students. For the month of October, we will be collecting backpacks, snacks (things like bars, Taki Chips, etc.), personal hygiene items (fun smelling lotions and soaps, Axe body spray, etc.), and gift cards to local fast-food restaurants.

Monetary donations given to the Hunger Jar in the back of the sanctuary will go toward purchasing gift cards at local fast-food restaurants.

RESCHEDULED! “God’s Work, Our Hands—And Rakes!"

The Church Yard Work Day is RESCHEDULED for Saturday, November 8th at 6:30 am. If you have them, please bring saws, hedge trimmers, loppers and rakes with you. The church has plenty of long extension cords. Water and cookies will be provided. Many hands make light work! Bring your energy and join us!

Community Outreach Event: Trunk-or-Treat

Critical events that help us connect with the surrounding community of Spirit of Hope Lutheran Church happen a few times a year. One of these events is our Trunk-or-Treat. This event provides us an opportunity to connect with our neighbors and invite them to our campus.

Our Trunk-or-Treat will be Saturday, October 25th from 9AM to 11AM. You are invited to help with games, decorate your vehicle and hand out candy, provide donations, offer hospitality, help with setup and clean up, etc. Signs up will be available in the narthex and more information will be made available as the details are brought together. Thank you in advance for your willingness to serve and offering a spirit of hospitality at Spirit of Hope!

 Looking for a Choir Director!

Our pianist, Donna, has asked if anyone might be able to help serve as our Choir Director as it is difficult to direct the choir and play the piano at the same time. If you have experience directing and are interested in serving, please reach out to the church office.

In Spirit of Hope's loving light,

Friendships blossom, shining bright.

A community of love and care,

Where hearts connect, and bonds share.

Through laughter and tears, we stand as one,

Supporting each other, under the same sun.

With kindness, compassion, and gentle care,

We lift each other, showing love's true air.

In Spirit of Hope, we find our way,

Through life's ups and downs, night and day.

With friends by our side, our hearts feel light,

In this haven, love shines, pure and bright.
