From Pastor Kevin's Desk

Spirit of Hope Lutheran Church community,

A friendly reminder that signups for short meetings before and after Saturday and Sunday worship remain in the Narthex. These are short 5-minute introductory meetings where I simply want to hear from you. I encourage you to sign up for this time to come and share. This is an important part of my getting to know you all and beginning to hear your stories.

Additionally, the Spirit of Hope office hours are as follows:

  • Closed Sunday (Worship at 9:30AM with fellowship after service)
  • Closed Monday
  • Tuesday: 9:00AM – 5:00PM
  • Wednesday: 12:00PM – 5:00PM
  • Thursday: 9:00AM – 5:00PM
  • Friday: 9:00AM – 5:00PM
  • Saturday: 1:00PM – 4:00PM (Fellowship at 4:30PM and worship at 5:00PM)

I had a trip scheduled prior to accepting the call at Spirit of Hope. I have modified that trip to ensure I am here for worship and back in the office by the end of the week. I will be out of the office on 10/30 and 10/31 – back for worship on 11/1 and 11/2 – and again out of the office 11/3-11/5. You can still reach out via phone or email in an emergency. I will be back in the office on 11/6.

Grace and peace,

Pastor Kevin Anderson

Do You Have a Prayer Request?

We’re formalizing a prayer list for Spirit of Hope members and those closely connected to our community. This will be an internal communication shared within our congregation. If you’d like to be added to the prayer list, please contact Pastor Kevin at prkevin@spiritofhopelutheran.com.

If you wish to add someone else, please check with them first to be sure they’d like to be included. Thank you for helping us lift one another in prayer and support within our community.

Tuesday Bible Study with Pastor Kevin

Bible Study will not meet on 11/4 as Pastor Kevin is out of the office. Study will resume on Tuesday, November 11th at 10:30AM.

Installation of Pastor Kevin

Installation for Pastor Kevin at Spirit of Hope will be Wednesday, November 12th at 5PM.

Memorial for Terry Williams

Please join us on Friday, November 21 at 11:00 AM at Spirit of Hope as we gather to remember and celebrate the life of Terry Williams, who passed away last spring. Terry touched so many lives at Spirit of Hope and his community with kindness, laughter, and unwavering spirit.

We invite you to bring a story, memory, or moment that reminds you of Terry. Whether heartfelt, humorous, or inspiring, your reflections will help us celebrate the beautiful legacy Terry leaves behind. A light luncheon will follow.

Let’s come together in love, remembrance, and gratitude.

UPDATE - Community Support – Helping Students at Skyline High School

Our “Shoebox” Collection ministry has changed this year. We will be working with the Cares Team at Skyline High School to help high school students in need. The Cares Team at Skyline, which includes Mesa Police Department Sgt. Cervantes (school resource officer), school nurse, some administration, the school psychologist, behavior coach, and counselors, works closely to support students with a variety of needs at the school.

We will be supporting this team by providing items that Cares Team can offer to these students. For the month of October, we will be collecting backpacks, snacks (things like bars, Taki Chips, etc.), personal hygiene items (fun smelling lotions and soaps, Axe body spray, etc.), and gift cards to local fast-food restaurants. All of these items can be dropped off at the church prior to November 2nd.

Monetary donations given to the Hunger Jar in the back of the sanctuary will go toward purchasing gift cards at local fast-food restaurants.

RESCHEDULED! “God’s Work, Our Hands—And Rakes!"

The Church Yard Work Day is RESCHEDULED for Saturday, November 8th at 6:30 am. If you have them, please bring saws, hedge trimmers, loppers and rakes with you. The church has plenty of long extension cords. Water and cookies will be provided. Many hands make light work! Bring your energy and join us!

Thank YOu

 Looking for a Choir Director!

Our pianist, Donna, has asked if anyone might be able to help serve as our Choir Director as it is difficult to direct the choir and play the piano at the same time. If you have experience directing and are interested in serving, please reach out to the church office.

Did You Know???

The Grand Canyon Synod (which Spirit of Hope is part of) is a very active community of 89 churches in Arizona, Nevada and Utah. There is always much going on. The Synod has a website that posts all the news of the synod. The link to the website is here: Grand Canyon Synod of the ELCA and if you click on "News" in the toolbar, you will find a link called "Get Our Newsletter". The Bishop's office puts out a weekly newsletter chock full of GCS happenings! And you can have it sent right to your email!

When you get a chance, take a look and see all the good things happening in Our Church!

Every dawn, a canvas wide,

A new chapter waits, unwritten inside.

The morning sun, a story's birth,

A chance to craft a brand new earth.

With every breath, a word is said,

A tale unfolds, a path is tread.

The ink of time, a narrative flows.

As we write, our stories grow.

The blank page beckons, pure and bright.

A chance to rewrite, to make things right.

To fill the voids, to heal the past,

And author a future that will forever last.

So let us seize the morning's might,

And write the chapters of our life's delight,

With hope, with heart, with every line,

We'll craft a truly divine story!
