Wondering what is happening with our call for a pastor?

I contacted our coach Pr. Phillip Gustafson and asked some specific questions that some of you have asked me.

Was our MSP (Ministry Site Profile) “advertised” nationwide or just to ELCA?

If not, what other Churches see it?

Your MSP was released to the ELCA Mobility Database that can be accessed by ELCA rostered leaders pursuing a call. It is also available to Rostered Leaders of our Communion Partner denominations (Episcopal, Moravian, Presbyterian (PCUSA), Reformed, and United Methodist).

If someone is interested, do they notify the synod directly?

If interested they contact our Mobility Director (Pr. John Maroni) and/or Bishop Hutterer. They discuss with them possibilities and if they are a good match for a congregation invite them to review the MSP and indicate if they wish their name submitted. If they are from outside the Grand Canyon Synod, Bishop Hutterer also speaks to their Bishop/Judicatory Head to receive their perspective.

So, does the synod transition team review and select only those applicants that they think would be a good match for us? Are these the only ones sent to us?

Short answer “Yes.” Longer answer is following the above listed protocol, once the Transition Team (notably Bishop and Director) ascertain a match and share with coach and the candidate agrees to have their name released do we submit their RMP to the Call Committee Chair for their consideration. If a congregation member has a Pastor in mind, if that pastor begins the process we can follow through on that.

Outreach

We have new boxes in the Narthex for the Outreach Committee's projects.

The Food Pantry is an ongoing project for the entire year. Please bring any non-perishable items any Sunday. All food goes to the Superstition Food Bank in Apache Junction.

Our new project is an Underwear Drive. These new undies will be given to selected charities - women’s and children's will go to CAAFA/New Leaf and men’s will go to the Genesis Project. Thanks for Max & Alice Tiede for their suggestion. This five week drive will start next Sunday, February 9th and conclude on March 9th.

This bank was designed by the SOH Woodworkers. Money was donated by Mary Myer to have a bank built so that kids and adults can put their coins in it. ELCA Good Gifts will be purchased as the money grows.

This bank is in memory of Mary's sister, Cindy Burchell and Delores Burchill's daughter.

We are proud to have a four generation family in our church. Delores Burchill, Mary Myer, Marissa Myer and Maryck.

On Saturday, April 5 at 10 am there will be a new member class. Please rsvp by filling out the new member form which is on the Info Desk. We are happy to have you join our church.

Work Day

There will be a work day on Saturday, March 15th at 8:00 am. Please come and help.

Confirmation Class

Confirmation Classes are on the 1st and 3rd Sundays following the Sunday 9:30 service.

If your child has not attended a Confirmation Class, they are welcome to begin and attend on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of each month.

The Thursday Women’s Bible Study is held on Thursdays at 1:00 PM in the church classroom.

We pray for those church members that are struggling with many health issues, anxiety, etc.

Pray for: Brian, Peg, Amber. Linda, John, Diane, Margaret, Alice, Karen, Ethel, Colleen's sister Jowana.

Lord, guide all who are struggling this week with health, loss and grief. Help us be angels that shine the Light of Christ upon them giving encouragement as they need. Amen
