The rather shocking news of Dell Horoscope's closing that I recently received leaves me very sad. For the last 19 years, I have written articles for this publication at least once a year and often several times per year, which have always been well-received, and I have shared a close friendship with the editor, Ms Ronnie Grishman, who has supported every idea and inspiration that I have ever wished to submit.
Dell Horoscope magazine was one of a kind, sold even at the supermarket, allowing astrology to be accessible and available to the general public. This is therefore the end of an era that pains me as well as the many other contributors to the magazine, some of whom like myself wrote occasional articles and some of whom had a regular column. The reasons for the closing were many including personal and commercial ones. Dell Horoscope was always a platform for me to present philosophical concepts and even sometimes playful ones for its audience.
The next to the last issue, on newsstands now, the January-February 2020 Yearbook, has my latest article in it, called "Saturn's Vanishing Rings". I hope you can find it and enjoy it while it remains on newsstands or by subscription. It was a joy and an honor to write for this publication, and I wish Ronnie and the rest of the staff the best for their well-deserved retirement.

JAN 2020 ASTRO TIDBITS
For the World, the period between January 11th-12th is earthshaking on many levels, perhaps even literally (
Pluto conjunct Saturn; Uranus station direct
), and emotionally very intense (
Pluto/Saturn opposite Moon
). Immediately preceding these days, on the 10th, there is a completion regarding domestic and family matters (
Lunar Eclipse in Cancer
), wherein communication is very important (
Sun conjunct Mercury
), and following, on the 12th as well, bringing much news and information, and even a new way of thinking about matters, or negotiating (
Mercury conjunct Pluto/Saturn
). From the 7th-11th, protective karma is in effect (
Jupiter conjunct SN
). The 16th is exciting and lucky (
Venus sextile Uranus
), with more loving kindness available on the 21st (
NN trine Venus
), but the 18th indicates upsetting news (
Mercury square Uranus
), and a separative energy on the 23rd (
Sun square Uranus
).
In the U.S., the month starts with luck regarding alliances (
Jupiter trine U.S. progressed Ascendant
) and there is effort put to infrastructure repairs on the 7th (
Mars conjunct U.S. progressed IC
). On the 11th, practical transformation can lead to signed trade deals (
Pluto/Saturn trine U.S. Neptune; Uranus SD sextile U.S. Venus
). Prayers are employed on the 12th (
Mercury trine U.S. Neptune
). The 16th can bring a bad accident (
Mars opposite U.S. Uranus
), but the 17th-18th has a celebratory mood (
Venus trine U.S. Venus/Jupiter
). Assertiveness, quarrels, and a show of force are indicated from the 22nd-29th (
Mars conjunct U.S. Ascendant, square U.S. progressed Sun, and sextile U.S. progressed Mars
) but the 25th-29th favors long-term plans (
Mars sextile U.S. Saturn
). The nation will be very generous the last days of the month (
Jupiter opposite U.S. Sun
).
President Trump finds the month to be tense (
Uranus square his progressed Saturn
); early on, he is angry and might lash out (
Mars square his Ascendant
) but enjoys a celebration on the 3rd (
Venus trine his Jupiter
). He finds more patience on the 7th (
Mars trine his progressed Saturn
) and is optimistic through the 11th (
Jupiter opposite his Mercury, trine his Progressed Moon, and square his progressed Neptune
). The 13th is nice for marital endeavors (
Venus conjunct his Descendant
). From the 16th-19th, he wants to take risks (
Jupiter square his progressed Mars
), and from the 19th-22nd, he feels empowered (
Mars trine his Pluto
) and can use diplomacy well (
Venus trine his Mercury
). In Week 3, he takes stock regarding delays but is very steady in his role, probably safe from impeachment (
Saturn opposite his Saturn, trine his MC
). Week 4 brings challenging resistance (
Pluto opposite his Saturn
) and old patterns can crop up the last few days (
Neptune square his Uranus
).
Ex-President Barack Obama receives upsetting or shocking news on the 11th (
Uranus SD t-square his progressed Ascendant, Mercury, progressed Mercury
). By month's end, he faces self-undoing (
Pluto/Saturn onto his Saturn/progressed MC in H12
).
Bernie Sanders must watch his health this month (
Saturn t-square his Moon, Venus; Pluto square his Mars
).
Rod Rosenstein(
1/13/1965, Phila PA) is under turbulent aspects (
Pluto conjunct his Sun; Neptune opposite his Pluto
) and remains deluded or sickly (
Neptune conjunct his progressed Sun, opposite his Pluto/progressed Mars
).
Prince Andrew
(
2/19/60, 3:30 PM, London
) is under continuing duress (
Saturn/Pluto square his Midheaven
), and is uncertain about his funding (
Neptune conjunct his Mercury in H8
). By June, his life becomes more turbulent (
Uranus opposite his Neptune
), with an undermining of his role and prime relationships by 2021 (
Uranus square his Leo Ascendant
).

BOOK REVIEW:
"
The Chalice and the Blade: Our History, Our Future
" - by
Riane Eisler (Harper Collins, 1988)
Author Eisler is now in her 90s and is a scholar and a Jewish survivor of Nazi Germany whose primary interest is feminism and "the legacy of the sacred feminine". The main thesis of this book in particular - one of many she has written - is that humanity in prehistory lived in an egalitarian, matriarchal, peaceful society without the need for fortresses, in an area of the world called Old Europe, a society she names a partnership model, until other humans developed weapons, invaded, and from the beginnings of history to now live in a model of society that is violent and male-dominated which she calls the Dominator model.
Her perspective is that the peaceful early society worshipped a Mother Goddess that gave birth to all, respected women, and was highly creative, whereas our current model, far less utopian, uses violence and force to eclipse the Divine Feminine, make women subservient, frame every mention of the divine as the Father and the Son; it structures religion and government in this domineering way which is less creative, and harmful to the planet. To support her thesis, she begins by describing Neolithic compounds as placed not on inaccessible hills but near water, without defenses, simply in places that are most beautif
ul.
This way of life reached its peak with the Minoans, she postulates, in ancient Crete.
Then she goes on to show how concomitant with the submission of the Divine Feminine, hillforts began, iron weapons and other technological advances changed society, and caused a "breakdown of evolution" while facing a Dominator future.
It's a rather bleak philosophy, and the author is an activist in feminist and ecological causes. She has coined words representing the feminine belief system and societal structure as glyancy, and the male or dominator structure as androcracy. From this viewpoint, she believes that women must return to power and regain their ascendancy in order for the earth itself to survive and thrive. "Real democracy requires a significant shift to the partnership side of the continuum, and a prerequisite for this is leaving behind traditions of male dominance and family violence."
While I don't take issue with the concept of the return of the Divine Feminine for the health of the race and the planet, I feel that there's a lot missing here. What is primarily missing is the greater context of cycles. She makes no mention of the alternation of Yin and Yang, and of the cosmic purpose behind Ages such as of Cancer when Yin or the feminine is in ascendancy versus when Yang or the masculine is in ascendancy, such as of Aries. And if masculine, or as she would put it, dominator society is so terrible in her regard, what was the divine purpose of its ascendancy during the last 5000 years? (Yang, primarily left-brain, is a time for the development of technology and the thrust of humanity's dispersal around the planet.)
Without this larger perspective of the alternation of Yin and Yang, and of God's plan of perfect balance, the book, certainly towards the end, feels like a political rant, something that today's Academia has often been accused of.
My other quibble is the complete lack of pictures throughout the book that could illustrate things that would really have helped, such as archeological finds, prehistoric art, edifices throughout the ages that support her research, and even anything other than a few maps that she includes in the back, except for the interesting figure on the cover representing, she claims, an ancient symbol of a phallus with breasts!
No doubt she's an excellent scholar and researcher but the book has much lacking. 3 stars.

A DIFFERENT KIND OF NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTION
If you were to release all your expectations, desires, wishes, especially on this - a New Year - which is understandably full of such things, you would find rather that you would gain peace, contentment, an attitude of serenity, of willingness to expect nothing, and the ability to handle anything that comes along. Such a wise mindset is hardly that which is taught by the culture, for the very idea of a New Year's resolution is to shoot for some achievement, or to expect some pleasant gain, be it of love, money, health, or whatever, that the New Year will be able to provide.
This is a culture, a society, a lifestyle that does not promote such a passive approach, for it is material, consuming, desirous, and in all ways advertising a proactive effort to gain or achieve or advance oneself. However, even if such targets are met, you will experience a certain amount of suffering in this great expenditure of your energy. So, what we are advising as such a new attitude, is to relax and let go. Some have called this "going with the flow", "alignment", "not pushing the river", or even "resting in the Lord". It is far from a new concept, but perhaps new to this culture in this era.
When such a simple and relaxed attitude is achieved, you also reach a new connection with your higher self, not based on desires but on what a higher plan has designed for you. Your release (also called "surrender") instantly reduces stress, reduces comparison with others, and creates a happy peacefulness within yourself. What the year will bring will be up to a divine hand, and not just your own. You will become an instrument of an unfolding plan, and yet never let go of your job as co-creator of the universe.
Try it. You may like it. This year let your resolution be to not resolve! To just be. To just experience. To just play with whatever destiny reveals.
