In this newsletter, we discuss the concept of spiritual health
(
see blog
) as preview to a workshop Dr. Bennett will conduct with colleagues at the National Wellness Conference (NWC) in October (Florida).
Note. Because NWC has been a source of combined personal renewal and professional development for thousands of wellness pros, we asked if we can offer our peeps (
you
) a discount (read below for the answer!).
Also, this year's conference is about THRIVING! and includes many sessions on spiritual health (including a keynote from
Anna Yusim, author of "Fulfilled"
). See a list of sessions below.

The Quest for Spirituality and Health:
Well-Being or Transcendence?
|
|
The past 20 years has seen tremendous growth in the study of spiritual health and self-transcendence. These two aspects of human development are essential to our understanding of health and wellness. But are they the same thing? (

Three Perspectives on Spiritual Health & Thriving
|
|
This session reviews two paths to spiritual health that are often viewed as separate: through mental practices (e.g., meditation, verbal prayer) and through physical practices (e.g., creative expression, tai chi).
Although “mind-body” practice is a common expression, we rarely look at how the actual ongoing relationship between mind and body plays such an integral role in spiritual health. Importantly, the topic of “spiritual health” can be difficult to introduce in certain settings (e.g., workplace, coaching practice) because of stigma, misconceptions, and previous challenges with religion. For this reason, this session will provide three different perspectives from practitioners who each approach the topic in different ways.

I am member of the National Wellness Institute, and have been involved for almost 20 years. This year, NWI is hosting the
National Wellness Conference (NWC)
in Orlando, FL at the Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center from October 1-3.
As a non-member of NWI, ordinarily you will not get this invitation and discount from a general announcement
While there are many health conferences, NWC aligns (whole) personal development and professional enhancement.
The conference is special for its inclusiveness, mind-sharing, connectedness, and cutting-edge topics.
A few years ago, I asked someone: "Why do you attend?" They said (verbatim):
“Well, I usually get my company to pay because they think it will help me professionally – and it does. This year they didn’t pay but I decided to come anyway because I need the renewal and connections with others, no matter what.”
