Embracing the rain and reflecting on gratitude...
Gratitude Month
Happy November!

Welcome to our "Gratitude Edition!" My name is Hilary Martin Himan, and I'm the Director of Spiritual Life and Chaplain to all: religious, secular, and spiritual. One of my spiritual practices is expressing gratitude, even on the hard days. Every night before I fall asleep, my spouse Jennie and I tell each other a list of gratitudes. Gratitudes can be as simple as noticing a beautiful tree to being grateful for a friend's help. The practice has served as a great antidote to my anxiety! Try it sometime. Do you have a gratitude practice that grounds you?

The Office of Spiritual Life will be hosting a "Gratitude Project" Day on Wed. Nov. 16th in front of JR Howard. We invite you to join us!

Gratitude is a PRACTICE. It can:

  • increase feelings of happiness and positive mood
  • foster hope for the future
  • reduce stress, burnout, and symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder
  • increase resilience

Seasons of Light Celebration
Call for Participants

Tentative date: December 7, 6:00pm
Tentative location: Gregg Pavilion
Most spiritual traditions and cultures have rituals during the winter that create light and nourish community during the darkness of the winter months. We hope to create a Lewis & Clark wide winter gathering that brings us together in celebrating diversity of tradition and expressions of spirit.

Everyone is welcome to sharing something inspired by this season. We welcome songs, prayers, poems, dances, etc.. This is a sacred space that supports both non-religious and multi-faith expressions. We aim to share together in joy and celebration of the vibrance of our community members.

This will include inward contemplation through meditation and visualization, as well as outward processing through writing and group sharing. Students will leave with encouragement and tools to use the moon cycle for tracking growth and connecting to spirituality. Open to all.
