Spiritual Opposition is Real

Ephesians 6:12 (NIV®)

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

If you made a list of the sources of struggles in your life, who or what would be on that list? Would you name people, organizations, or institutions? The Bible says the biggest struggle of our lives isn’t with those things. It says our struggle is not primarily against humans and their created structures, but with the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. That can be hard for us to grasp because we want to blame our struggles on people and things we can identify. We’re a little too sophisticated to believe in spiritual forces we cannot see. But our inability to see them does not diminish the reality of spiritual things. I assure you that there is a spiritual struggle over your life and your home. In order to flourish in the midst of that, we must draw closer to the Lord and rely on the power of His Holy Spirit. Then, and only then, will we emerge victorious and triumphant over the challenges of our spiritual enemy.

THINK ABOUT IT

In contemporary Christianity, we’re often too sophisticated to believe we’re engaged in spiritual warfare. I’m grateful for modern advancements, but they do not diminish our need for dependence on the Word of God and the power of the Holy Spirit.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, “My eyes are fixed on you, Sovereign LORD; in you I take refuge—do not give me over to death. Keep me safe from the traps set by evildoers, from the snares they have laid for me” (Psalm 141:8–9, NIV®).

Blessings,

Pastor Allen Jackson
