Pump up the Spice!

It's Time to Get Carving

Spooky Season is here, and one favorite activity to celebrate all things Fall is carving pumpkins! Save those pumpkin seeds for roasting with some favorite Fall spices (yum), and remember ALL parts of an unpainted pumpkin can go into your green cart - even the rotten ones! We'll take them and turn them into compost at our Johnson Canyon Composting facility.

Mobile HHW Collection Events for Rural County

We have great news - we were awarded grant funding from CalRecycle to host full Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection events in South and North County! Soon, these communities will benefit from having local access to proper disposal of common household hazardous wastes like sharps, pesticides, cleaners, antifreeze, and more. We look forward to getting this project off the ground in 2023 and we'll keep you informed of the progress and updates!  You may still dispose of your HHW materials at our Madison Lane location, just outside of Salinas. Click below to learn about accepted materials and location details.

How Do You Sort?

Our member cities received these new sorting stations to beautify their work and public spaces, and to help avoid contamination. Having accessible and visual indicators of the different waste streams makes a recycling program more successful. Here are some tips to help make sorting at home easier, too!

* Keep your internal bins in an accessible area (like the kitchen)

* Keep all three bins next to each other (kitchen pail, recycling, and trash)

* Have each bin clearly marked or color coded

* Consume less - the less trash and single-use items you purchase, the less there is to sort through!

Successful Clean-ups

Thank you to all of our local waste haulers, volunteers, and agencies for all of your hard work in keeping our communities clean and safe!

Prunedale, Lockwood, Salinas, & Soledad were some of the many places in our service area this past month that hosted  free community clean-ups for their residents.

Is there an area in your community or neighborhood that could also benefit from an organized litter clean-up? Now is the time to be the change you wish to see! We are here to support you. Learn how by using the link below.
