The Sport Hall of Fame .......

The Sports Hall of Fame takes a stride forward...

History has a way of going by the wayside when it is not written down for future generations, and our work over the summer on the Sports Hall of Fame will see to it that the history of sports in Mount Pearl remains front and center. We are in the process of putting biographies and photos of all Sports Hall of Fame inductees and Honour Roll teams on the web, making them accessible to everyone. Samantha Griffin has joined the Sport Alliance staff team for the summer. She is meeting with local groups and individuals, and is busy researching and writing so that we may better share this important history with the community. If you wish to contact Samantha please email sportalliancetemp@mountpearl.ca

Volunteer Development Initiative

The Sport Alliance is leading a new Volunteer Development Initiative with a view to supporting volunteerism and supporting non-profit organizations in Mount Pearl.  Much of the input will come from Sport Alliance members and other community organizations.  Although still in the very early stage of development this initiative the following issues have surfaced as we meet with leaders and groups.  Others will become apparent and priorities will be established as more work is completed.

  • Promotion, recruitment and recognition of volunteers;
  • Interagency volunteer networking and sharing, especially as it relates to major community events;
  • Volunteer management, screening and training;
  • Board governance in non-profit organizations.

A staff person will be dedicated to work with the project this summer.  For more information call the Sport Alliance office 748-6489, and stay tuned for developments.
