As the pandemic continues to defy predictability, quality sport and physical literacy organizations have been forced to be nimble to survive. Many have faced financial hardships and even the prospect of going out of business. That translates to fewer people with access to the essential benefits of being active for life.

Antigonish Multisport provides quality first experiences

An innovative multisport program that began in Antigonish seven years ago has first spread across the province of Nova Scotia and now the rest of the country, with offerings in both English and French. Its young participants rotate through nine different sports offered by numerous community stakeholders, giving them the opportunity to develop the skills and confidence necessary to reap the positive benefits of a quality first sport experience. 
 
COVID-19 exacerbates inequities in Canadian sport sector

The COVID-19 pandemic has had far-reaching effects on the Canadian sport and physical activity ecosystem, and understanding its effects will be key to the process of building back better. A multitude of surveys have been conducted to examine the impacts across the country and in different sectors within the sport system, and most of the news is not good.

Cultural Awareness in Youth Sport

Sport offers many opportunities to meet people and learn about various cultures. This course on Cultural Awareness in Youth Sport examines the basic concept of culture and provides sport leaders with practical ways to model cultural awareness to youth players.

PLAYBuilder mobilized by PL4C

When it comes to delivering quality sport and physical literacy programming, PLAYBuilder is useful in several different contexts. The Physical Literacy for Communities (PL4C) initiative has been incorporating the cloud-based, lesson-planning system into its projects for several years now, and the working groups are beginning to see positive results.

The pandemic made it abundantly clear how crucial sport, physical activity and recreation are to the health and well-being of children and youth. Community support and innovation have never been so critical in ensuring children and youth grow up with the experiences they need to be active for life.

In this webinar, we compare current priorities against an appropriate mix of fun, safety and success, through which athletes can thrive. Perhaps, it is time to challenge the norm, “this is what we have always done”. This session will bring together experts (researchers and practitioners) to discuss the athlete experience and our approach to development and learning.
