Jimmies
The St. James Jimmies continued their winning ways last Tuesday as they knocked off Winding River twice: 20 to 16 and 17 to 14. The two wins improve the Jimmies’ record to 6 wins against 2 losses. They are currently tied with Coastal Tire for second place in the league standings. Jimmies’ leading hitter, Jay Cole, hit for the cycle in game 1, driving in 6 runs. Cole improved his
season batting average to a sizzling .947. Lou Bruenig, Kevin Lynch and John Salerno added 3 hits each. In the second game, Tom Boggs, Steve Grigorio and Lynch led the offensive attack with 3 hits apiece. Pitcher Roger Albizu picked up the wins in both games with 6 and 1/3 innings of solid relief work.
Next up for the Jimmies will be Team USA, who trail the Jimmies in the league standings with a 4 and 4 record. The games will be played at Shallotte Park beginning at 9 am.

Gators Softball
The St. James Gators are seeking players for the 2022 season of the Brunswick County Men’s Softball League. This league is for men 50+ and is competitive (for old guys). The team plays on Tuesday morning double headers against 7 other teams from Brunswick County in the Spring and Fall. It’s a great way to get out and run a little and hit a little like you did back in the day. The games are competitive (for our age) and offer a good workout!

We will begin practices sometime soon and will start games in the Spring. If you are looking forward to fun and games in the spring and fall with a great group of guys, get in touch with coach John Neal or myself.

Report for week ending April 15

Tuesday, April 12
Nice, brisk day for sailing; temperature in the low 70’s with SW winds of 12-15k, gusting to perhaps 20k. High moving clouds bringing changes in gusts and direction with their shadows. As the day progressed, winds picked up with some boats burying their bows & changing leads. Dick Denzler lead with three wins and one 2nd. Ken Bates had one win and two 2nds. Mark Hamer and
Terry McCormick each had one win. Ron Hawkins, Bill Miller and Ray Cook each had one 2nd each. In the DF95 races, Dick Denzler had three wins and one 2nd, pointing out Charlie Sweeney who had three wins. Ken Bates had four 2nds and Steve Stopa had one 2nd.

Thursday, April 14
The Tax Day Regatta Brought out seven Nirvana skippers and six Dragon boats. One of the few times we have had nearly the same number of entries. RO Steve Stopa laid out a course starting in the east, and taking a more serpentine route. Strong SW winds mostly affected the Yellow and Green markers as they sat in the wind ‘shadows’ of the homes. Out of those shadows, ‘respect’ of those on starboard tacks was occasionally ignored. While many races were competitive, in the last DF95 race, Ron Hawkins led throughout the course, but was caught up & edged out by Dick in the last 30 yards.
Nirvanas: 1st Place: Dick Denzler, 2nd Place: Ken Bates, 3rd Place: Ray Cook

March News
The St. James Ping Pong Club hosted the Brunswick County Senior Gator Games Table Tennis (Ping Pong) Event on April 8th at the Community Center. The turnout was excellent with players from all over the county. It was an exciting and fun event including food and beverages. Holden Beach players even brought Cheerleaders and we had many other spectators. The photo was taken of all the registered players prior to the games beginning.
There were five tables with continuous play for singles, doubles and mixed doubles. Click Here for the results for St. James Ping Pong Club members. Congratulations to them and all the other winners. Medal winners are eligible to compete at the Senior Games State Level in September in the Raleigh area. Additionally, this is a qualifying year for National Senior Games.
The Club would like to thank the Town of St. James and the Community Center staff for all of their help with our event. We also thank Brunswick County Parks & Recreation for running the Senior Games and SilverArts Programs.

Click Here to see the medal winners.
We currently have over 40 active members from St. James in our club. We normally average around 20 players per session. We meet on Mondays at 6PM and Wednesdays at 3PM, Players of all levels are welcome. Contact Gary at garymlynek@gmail.com for more information about joining.
St. James Billiards League
Congratulations to the 2022 STJ Billiards League winners - Motley Crew, Captained by Bill Hanson, with teammates Rich Booth, Alan Massara, Wayne Gemelli, Dave Perry, and Alan Boisvert. The team had 134 of the 216 games plated this season. Second place went, last season’s winning team Ocean’s Eleven with 129 wins and in third place - SJ Hustlers with 128 wins. As you can see it was a closely contested season which came down to the final weeks for the winner. There will be a “Passing of the Trophy” on April 21st at 4 PM – Waterway Park. All league members are encouraged to come and commiserate with their fellow
pool players for a quick get-together, bring you own beverages, and catch up, brag, or suck up with players who you may only see once or twice a year on a pool table.
Here is where you see all the scores, stats and standings. We also have an email address, stjbilliards@gmail.com, which is used for sending match results right after the match ends so by the next day you know where you are in the standings.
