St. James Tennis Association sponsored a silent and live auction to include the St James Plantation, community at large, on Thursday Evening March 23 6-9 pm at Members Club. All of the proceeds from the auction will go to the “ Childrens Cancer Partners of the Carolinas”. We exceeded our goal which was
$10,000. We raised in excess of $12,000. The Tennis Association wishes to thank the St James Plantation community for their generosity in supporting our kids who battle childhood cancer.

Good times were had by all as we celebrated St. Patrick’s Day at the first SJTA Twilight Mixed Round Robin. The color green abounded and the luck of the Irish (everyone is Irish on St Patrick’s Day) was with us as Mother Nature cooperated with the weather. It was a chance for old friends and new acquaintances to mix, mingle and play tennis. There was a lot of laughter going on. Top honors, winning the most games, went to Lynn Dallachie and Mark Wilson. | |
Jimmies Softball
Opening day for the Spring softball season is just around the corner. The Jimmies start the season next Tuesday with a double-header vs the St. James Gators at Smithville Park beginning at 9:00. With the nucleus of their roster from the Fall returning, they have high hopes of finishing atop the Brunswick County Senior League “A” Division. The Jimmies will be without Paul “Big Paulie” Wakmunski who passed away recently. He was the team’s score keeper and statistician as well as a beloved teammate. The Jimmies’ dugout will not be the same without his presence. Rest in peace Big Paulie!

The Cape Fear Flyfishers meet every third Wednesday (except summers) at 6:15 PM at the St. James Community Center. Our next meeting on March 15 promises a great presentation from Captain Jon Huf, a long time international and US guide. He will share his insights into striper fishing on the Cape Fear right near Wilmington where he has had impressive results. He’ll also share his reds fishing experience and local Tarpon. This promises to be an exciting motivation for local fly fishing. Weather permitting, we will practice fly casting in the ponds next to the center at 5PM. Bring your gear or borrow one of the instructor’s many rods. We welcome anyone new to the area or new to fly fishing.
