Fall is Here
Its hard to believe that September 22nd is the first day of Fall. We can look forward to crisp air, bright colored leaves on the trees and Orange, the trendy color of the year, can be seen everywhere!
Treat yourself to the Great Jack O'Lantern Blaze at Van Cortlandt Manor, or one of the many local Fall Festivals like the Warwick Applefest.
Just get outside with friends & family and have some Fall Fun!
Design Retreat
A few months ago, I had a wonderful opportunity to meet with some top designers from around the country, to discuss the business of design. The 3 day retreat was located in beautiful sunny Tucson Arizona.
It was fascinating to share best practices in the industry, and personal stories of working within challenging locations or situations.
I left with lots of new information to incorporate into my Design Practice, that directly benefits my clients and their projects!

Not just a man cave

A Westchester NY home had an empty 1300 Square foot basement to renovate. The young family of four requested the space be multi-purpose.

The main room was for the adults to entertain family and friends with a Sports Theme. It included a unique bar designed with beautiful granite countertops, custom cabinetry and appliances. A pool table and dartboard provided grown up activity while a large high def. TV in custom built-in cabinetry was viewable from all parts of the room for watching sports and family movies. The cabinetry was designed to incorporate the window above the TV and showcase sports memorabilia that the couple had collected. Framed and signed jerseys were also hung on the wall. A 10' x 6' fully custom sectional was created for maximum seating and viewing.

A workout room, children's playroom and full bathroom were also included in the space-planning for a multi-purpose destination that the whole family, especially the young girls, would enjoy.

Other important renovation details included the addition of steps and a cellar door leading up to the outside, larger windows to conform to egress code, walled in space at the perimeter of the main room to hide the mechanical equipment and for additional storage, and the use of porcelain "wood" tile for the floor in the children's play area.

Now the family says that all who come over are blown away!

Artist Spotlight: Susan Lanzano

Susan Lanzano's exquisitely delicate watercolors offer a unique interpretation of botanical painting. Inspired by a lifelong fascination with the natural world, she works in a range of styles, from spontaneous Oriental brush painting on raw rice paper to highly realistic, detailed renderings in the Western botanical tradition.

Her artwork provides a perfect complement to traditional or modern dcor and is available both as original paintings and reasonably priced limited edition gicle prints. (see Denise for details)

Last year, with designer Jerry Gross, she created a stunningly beautiful botanical wall calendar, which is currently being featured at the New York Botanical Garden Shop.
