NFC Championship Game -- San Francisco 49ers vs. Green Bay Packers
2020 NFC Championship Game Features Timeless Veterans
When the top-seeded San Francisco 49ers host the second-seeded Green Bay Packers next Sunday, January 19 for the NFC Championship, two aging, familiar faces will take the field at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara: quarterback Aaron Rodgers of the Packers (left) and offensive left tackle Joe Staley of the Niners (right). Both have much in common. Rodgers is 36, Staley is 35. Rodgers is a 15-year NFL veteran, Staley has 13 years under his belt. Rodgers has been to the Pro Bowl eight times, Staley six times. Both have played their entire careers for one team. Both were first-round picks in their respective NFL drafts: Rodgers chosen 24th overall in 2005 from Cal, and Staley 28th overall in 2007 from Central Michigan. In their NFC divisional matchups this past weekend, the 49ers defeated the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday, 27-10, and the Packers defeated the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, 28-23. Both advancing NFC teams are now 13-3, and both have hopes of booking a flight to Miami to play the winner of the AFC championship (Tennessee Titans at Kansas City Chiefs) in Super Bowl LIV (54) on Sunday, February 2.

Christian McCaffrey -- 2019 NFL All-Pro First Team
Christian McCaffrey Named to 2019 NFL All-Pro First Team
For the first time in his three-year NFL career, running back Christian McCaffrey of the Carolina Panthers has been named to the Associated Press' NFL All-Pro first team. The former college standout of the Stanford Cardinal, seen above (L-R) in the 2014 Foster Farms Bowl against Maryland, and the 2016 Rose Bowl Game against Iowa, was selected to the 2019 NFL squad as both the first-team running back and flex player (used in fantasy football). The Colorado native led the NFL this year in touches (403), yards from scrimmage (2,392) and touchdowns (19). McCaffrey also made 116 receptions, marking his second consecutive 100-catch year. He joined Marshall Faulk and Roger Craig as the only players in NFL history to record over 1,000 yards rushing and 1,000 yards receiving in the same season. Caption and photo by Kenny Karst.

One Warm Shirt
and Socks,
2020
|
I have a simple request, whether you live in the Bay Area or anyplace else in our country, I want the shirt off your back and the socks off your puppies. Over the past seven years I have been lucky enough to partner with St. Anthony Foundation and NBC Sports Bay Area in growing our
One Warm Shirt Program. This year we are adding the warmth of socks to grow the program.
We are collecting as many sweatshirts, hoodies, long sleeves, t-shirts and now athletic socks as possible to donate to the San Francisco community served by the St. Anthony Foundation. You are receiving this request because you donated in the past or might donate in the future and have always exhibited the spirit of philanthropic community-focused proactivity in helping others. This note is a reminder to either set aside items before the holidays take over for a follow-up communication or send to us now.
The distribution event will be a part of a post-holiday lunch served to recipients during
the week of February 24, 2020 at the 8th annual One Warm Shirt & Socks
event.
Please send what you have:
* New or gently used
* All sizes
* From the bottom of your drawer, storeroom, irregular pile, gym bag, attic or basement
* Misprinted logo bin
* Events that no longer exist
* Logos or colors that are too garish for your style

Sonoma Raceway launches High-Performance Driving Center
SONOMA, Calif.
--
Sonoma Raceway is launching a new experiential automotive program which will allow drivers of all skill levels to enjoy the high-speed thrills of the premier wine country motorsports venue.
The Sears Point Racing Experience will offer high-performance driving courses, racing programs, safe driver training, corporate outings, manufacturer showcases, go-karting and more. Programs can utilize the raceway's vehicle fleet or customers can test their own cars on the famed 2.52-mile road course.
The new venture, launched Jan. 1, builds upon instruction platforms and assets previously operated by the Simraceway Performance Driving Center. New programs, schedules and options will be rolled out in the coming months. All programs and gift cards previously purchased from Simraceway will be honored and executed by the Sears Point Racing Experience.
The new venture continues the facility's 46-year history of hosting an on-site racing school. Since 1973, the raceway has been home to four different top-tier performance driving/racing schools beginning with the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving (1973-1990), Skip Barber Racing School (1990-1995), Jim Russell Racing Drivers School (1995-2006) and Simraceway Performance Driving Center (2006-2019).
"The hands-on automotive experience has always been the core of our day-to-day business and the demand for these activities has grown dramatically over the last decade," said Steve Page, Sonoma Raceway president and general manager. "We are very excited to launch this new venture and to further integrate these behind-the-wheel opportunities with our existing menu of customer experiences."
The Racing Experience will operate from the existing 18,000-square foot facility adjacent to Turn 1 of the 12-turn road course; karting operations will also continue at the ¾-mile Sonoma Raceway Karting Center.
The raceway will host a formal grand-opening for the Sears Point Racing Experience at a later date. For more information on available programs and opportunities, visit
www.searspointracing.com

San Jose Earthquakes
Earthquakes announce staffing updates for 2020
General manager Jesse Fioranelli (above) signs new contract; President Tom Fox departs club
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- The San Jose Earthquakes announced a series of staffing updates for the 2020 Major League Soccer season.
General manager Jesse Fioranelli has signed a new multi-year contract with the club. The former Lazio and Roma executive has served in his role since January 2017. Fioranelli was responsible for the hiring of 2018 Concacaf Manager of the Year Matias Almeyda and has signed six Homegrown Players since his appointment three years ago. The Earthquakes reached the playoffs in 2017 and were a Decision-Day result away from another berth in 2019.
"I'm really excited to continue being part of this storied club," said Fioranelli. "I'm fortunate to be surrounded by a hard-working staff that truly cares about the organization from the first team down to the academy. With Matias as a great partner on the technical side, we want to continue to build off the growth we saw in 2019, not just with the first team but across the entire technical side of the club all the way through the youth. Over these past three years, we have learned a lot about ourselves, the kind of club culture we want to cultivate and the standard we expect from ourselves. Together, we want to serve our fans and our community in a way that makes them proud about the club we all love."
"We are excited to keep Jesse with the club after our promising 2019 season," said Earthquakes owner John Fisher. "We made a lot of steps in the right direction and are looking forward to 2020."
Additionally, Tom Fox has stepped down from his role as president of the Earthquakes after his two and a half years at the helm. Fox's duties have been divided among several club executives on the business side of the organization, including Chief Operating Officer Jared Shawlee, Executive Vice President Jed Mettee and Vice President of Strategy Ian Anderson. With Fox's departure, both Fioranelli and Shawlee will report directly to the Earthquakes Board.
"We would also like to thank Tom Fox for all his work the past two and a half years with the club," continued Fisher. "With Tom's departure, we have built out a new leadership team at the club that we are very confident in. They will work very closely with our board as we head into the 2020 season."
Technical director Chris Leitch has signed a new multi-year contract. Leitch, an Earthquakes defender from 2009-11, has served in a variety of capacities since 2012. In addition to providing support for the first team, Leitch executed the construction of a USL Championship affiliation with Reno 1868 FC from the ground up, while overseeing San Jose's highly competitive Boys' and Girls' Academies.
Head scout Bruno Costa has signed a new multi-year contract. Overseeing the club's scouting efforts at the first team, USL-affiliate, collegiate and youth levels since April 2017, Costa has helped San Jose greatly enhance its player-pool network. Director of methodology Alex Covelo has also signed a new multi-year contract. Since joining in April 2017, Covelo has held a variety of roles with the first team and academy, including two stints as assistant coach.
