San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, awash in controversy over his refusal to stand during the playing of the National Anthem, made his preseason debut on Friday, August 26 against the Green Bay Packers at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara. During several series in the second quarter, Kap threw and ran the ball, but failed to put any points on the board. Tied 7-7 at halftime, the Packers' reserves controlled the second half, and the Niners fell, 21-10. Next up on the preseason schedule is a road game against the San Diego Chargers on Thursday, September 1, airing on KPIX 5 at 7 p.m.

49ers defensive lineman Ronald Blair (98) and defensive tackle Tank Carradine (95) harass the Packers' Joe Callahan (6) but it wasn't enough, as the backup quarterback would pass for 167 yards and one touchdown, completing 16/24.

Charismatic and with a winning presence,
San Francisco Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford seems an unlikely home run hitter, yet he is tied with catcher Buster Posey with 12. (First baseman Brandon Belt leads the team with 14.) Crawford would go 3 for 5 in Sunday's game against the

Anyone capable of finishing in eighth place in the
Race Across America (RAAM) is obviously an exceptional ultra-cyclist. But it seems that Adam Bickett isn't satisfied with posting that result in 2015 and has registered for another go at it next year. RAAM fans will remember that while Bickett finished in 10 days, 15 hours and 53 minutes, he also spent over 36 hours stopped in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, suffering from altitude-related edema that had filled his lungs with fluid. Deduct those 36 hours from his eventual time and we have the "what if" finish time of 8 days, 23 hours and 53 minutes, which would have put him in third place. Will he have the speed and racing savvy to race for the win? RAAM 2017 promises to be interesting and exciting.
