Nominations open for Sask Sport Board of Directors
Do you know a strong leader with a passion for sport and community development?

Sask Sport is seeking nominations to its Board of Directors. Four three-year term positions are available.

The deadline for nominations is June 11. Elections will be held during the Sask Sport AGM on June 17 at 1 p.m.
Respect Group makes updates to Safe Sport
Through consultation with their sport partners and review, Respect Group has created and launched additional components to their suite of programs to provide a comprehensive approach to Safe Sport education.

May is KidSport Month in Saskatchewan
Government of Saskatchewan Minister of Parks, Culture and Sport, Laura Ross, proclaimed May as KidSport Month in Saskatchewan. The month-long campaign, which will feature COVID-safe fundraisers and celebrations, begins on May 1.

To help fundraise, the 40 local KidSport chapters across the province will host a variety of fundraising events and activities, following COVID-19 regulations, including:
  • KidSport Regina and Saskatoon chapter will host virtual Corporate Challenges, which will see businesses compete against one another in weekly activities.
  • On May 10, KidSport Regina through the Farm Credit Canada (FCC) Spirit Fund, along with members of the Regina Police Service and Regina Fire & Protective Service will be distributing more than 180 soccer balls or footballs to Dream Broker participants. KidSport Ambassadors will also conduct a skills session webinar with the kids after distribution.
  • In partnership with Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers, KidSport Saskatchewan will hold an online charity auction from May 20-26, featuring sports memorabilia and a variety of items from Saskatchewan businesses.
  • On May 25, the lights of Mosaic Stadium will go yellow in support of KidSport. Other businesses and organizations in the province are encouraged to shine on for KidSport by lighting up yellow or putting KidSport's logo on digital signs.

Mercredi a significant figure in Northern Saskatchewan sport
"I've always wanted to be involved. It's boring when you're not."

Lonnie Mercredi is no stranger to amateur athletics in Saskatchewan.

Growing up in La Ronge, Mercredi played all sorts of sports. It’s a tradition he’s continued into his teaching and coaching career. Mercredi is a physical education teacher at Eagleview Comprehensive High School in Onion Lake.

School Sport Canada launches new eLearning Coaching Resource for school sport coaches
School Sport Canada (SSC) has launched a new eLearning resource that seeks to reduce barriers to sport participation by shedding light on the aspects of the effective teaching and learning.

Coaching School Sport: Redefining Winning is now the required course for all first time approved non-faculty coaches in Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association (SHSAA).

The cost for the module is $50 and takes approximately 1.5 hours to complete.
