The Canada Winter Games are underway in Prince Edward Island with 217 athletes, 74 coaches and support staff, 26 mission staff and 26 officials coming from 60 communities across Saskatchewan, forming a full contingent of 343 participants taking part. Week 2 action starts Feb. 27.

For the first time ever, Regina is playing host to the Saskatchewan Winter Games, as the 50th anniversary of the biennial multi-sport event is now underway.

Upwards of 1,600 athletes from every corner of the province are set to compete in 16 different sports, with the closing ceremonies set for Feb. 25.

After capturing gold with Team Canada at the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship, defencemen Nolan Allan and Kevin Korchinski have paired up to receive the January Athlete of the Month award.  

The Physical and Health (PHE) Saskatchewan Conference (formerly the SPEA Conference) is back. The conference is being jointly put on with Sport for Life and Physical Literacy Saskatchewan.

Individuals or groups are invited to be a part of the Conference Displayer Venue on Thursday, March 30 at the Physical Activity Complex at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon. There will be no charge to groups who wish to display this year. 

The Saskatoon Sports Hall of Fame is looking for nominations of athletes, builders or teams for the upcoming induction.

The deadline for nominations is April 1, annually.

The Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC) is officially accepting applications for the 2023-24 Paralympic Sport Development Fund, in support of sport organizations across Canada offering quality Para sport initiatives. 

The Paralympic Sport Development Fund provides grants for local sport organizations, clubs and programs that help athletes along their development pathway, including for items like recruitment initiatives, coaching, equipment, competition and more.

Funds can be used to support the creation of a new program or the expansion of an existing successful initiative.

Applications will be accepted until Feb. 24.
