Celebrate National Indigenous History Month
Across Canada, June is recognized as National Indigenous History Month. During this month, Sask Sport will be recognizing the rich sport history and athletic opportunities of Indigenous Peoples across the province.

June is Pride Month
June is known across the world as Pride Month. Parades, festivals and events celebrating the LGBTQ2SI+ community happen across the world in the month and Canada is no different.
 
Sask Sport is committed to providing fun, safe and healthy sport environments, as well as encouraging and supporting diverse and inclusive sport opportunities.

Follow Sask Sport social media every Thursday in June for resources, information and stories to celebrate Pride Month through the eyes of sport.

Resources from partner organizations throughout Canada help shape and guide how to be a LGBTQ2SI+ ally in sport.
City of Regina Adapted Sport & Recreation Grant applications due June 23
The Adapted Sport & Recreation Grant is designed to support projects and initiatives that enhance inclusion and increase accessibility in sport and recreation for people with disabilities.

This is one-time funding that will allow organizations to try something new, or make accessibility-related changes to existing programs, services or facilities, including facility renovations to improve accessibility.

The deadline for applications in June 23.
Respect in Sport administrator training workshops
Sask Sport is hosting a pair of virtual Respect in Sport training workshops for new administrators as well as those who feel they need a refresher.

The workshops are scheduled for Monday, June 13 at 2 p.m. or Tuesday, June 14 at 10:00 a.m. and will last approximately 30 minutes.
 
To register for a workshop, please complete the Respect in Sport Administrator Change Form and submit it to Lisa Stewart.

Coach NAIG Team Saskatchewan
Team Saskatchewan is looking for coaching staff to help with the teams competing at the 2023 North American Indigenous Games July 15-23, 2023.

The Games will include 14 different sport disciplines, many of which will have multiple age categories.

The deadline to apply for a coaching position is June 29.

Women and Leadership free virtual workshops
Sask Sport is partnering with Saskatchewan’s seven Sport, Culture and Recreation districts to offer free virtual Women and Leadership workshops, covering eight unique topics, throughout October and November 2022.

The workshops will run every Tuesday at 7 p.m. (SK time) starting October 11.

Saskatchewan's newest millionaire
D'Arcy Glover might have a case of déjà vu after winning $1 million on the May 27 WESTERN MAX draw.

After checking his numbers on the Sask Lotteries website, he ran into his bedroom and woke up his wife.

"I think I just won another million!" Glover recalled exclaiming with a laugh.
This is Glover’s second major windfall from playing the lottery. He also picked up a $1 million MAXMILLIONS prize on a LOTTO MAX draw back in July 2018.

"It's a really good feeling!” laughed Glover as he claimed his WESTERN MAX prize in the last couple days of May. “This time around, it's probably more of a good feeling because — as much as it's a cliche — 'what are the odds?!'"

Glover picked up his winning WESTERN MAX ticket at the Saskatoon Co-op Dalmeny C-Store at 510 Highway 305 S in Dalmeny a couple of days before the May 27 draw.

Member tip: Shaping inclusive sport policy and programs
Over the past few years, the racism and discrimination brought to light throughout society and within the sport sector have forced a necessary reflection on policies and practices. While the concepts of diversity, equity and inclusion were seeded in government policy many decades ago, the context has evolved significantly.

Today, these terms have new meaning, in light of events in broader society and our responses to them. There’s a renewed urgency for sport stakeholders to adopt new policies and programs to bring about cultural change that can ensure the future of sport includes all Canadians.

The Sport Information Resource Centre (SIRC) discusses how sport policies and programs in Canada have evolved and how they contributed to the development of safe and inclusive sport for all Canadians.
