Sask Sport is seeking nominations to its Board of Directors.
The deadline for nominations is June 11. Elections will be held during the Sask Sport AGM on June 17 at 1 p.m.

"From when I was just young, I had dreamed of going to the Olympics. If I actually made it, that would be a dream come true."
Saskatoon-based diver Rylan Wiens recently captured a bronze medal in the 10-metre platform event at a World Cup event in Tokyo, which he describes as the "best moment of his career."
The medal-winning performance also earned Canada an Olympic berth in the event at the 2020 Tokyo Games. Wiens will compete to be the diver representing Canada in that spot at the upcoming Canadian Olympic trials from June 28-July 1.

Indigenous Sport Leadership Council helps create strong communication connections |
|
Since the early 2000s, the Indigenous Sport Leadership Council (ISLC) has been an invaluable resource for advice and recommendations to Sask Sport for Indigenous sport development throughout the province. The council also helps provide guidance and insight on Sask Lotteries Trust Fund allocations to organizations to support projects to meet the needs of Indigenous Peoples participation in sport.
“This position allows us to work as a team of volunteer leaders who play a key role in helping Sask Sport collaborate with Indigenous people at the local level to support grassroots initiatives that are strengthening communities across the province,” said Audra Young, chair of the ISLC.
Learn more about how the 12-person ISLC works with Sask Sport to ensure that sport development plans prioritize and align with important recommendations that have been presented in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC) Calls to Action No. 87-91 and the United Nations Declaration of Indigenous Peoples at sasksport.ca.

Celebrating Pride in June |

June is known across the world as Pride Month. Parades, festivals and events celebrating the LGBTQ2SI+ community happen across the world in the month and Canada is no different.
Sask Sport is committed to providing fun, safe and healthy sport environments, as well as encouraging and supporting diverse and inclusive sport opportunities.
Find resources from partner organizations throughout Canada that can help shape and guide how to be a LGBTQ2SI+ ally in sport at sasksport.ca.

Colette Bourgonje has made a lasting impression on Saskatchewan amateur sport |

The accolades keep coming for Porcupine Plain’s Colette Bourgonje, who was announced on May 20 as one of five athletes included in the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame’s 2021 Induction Class.
Previous inductions for Bourgonje are the Saskatoon Sports Hall of Fame (1998, athlete), the Canadian Disability Hall of Fame (2010, athlete) and, most recently, Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame (2019, athlete).

The Active Families Benefit (AFB) is an annual refundable tax benefit introduced to help Saskatchewan families with the costs of their children's participation in sports, cultural and recreation activities.
Eligible families of a child 18 years of age or younger as of the last day of the taxation year are eligible for a fully refundable tax benefit up to $150 per child or $200 per child with a disability.

Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame (2011 - Builder, Multisport)

During his lifetime, Tony Cote was a major proponent of Indigenous sport, creating and developing Indigenous hockey teams and leagues, fastball teams and multi-sport games within Saskatchewan.
Cote's most important contribution to sport in Saskatchewan came in 1974, when he played an instrumental role in the creation of the Saskatchewan First Nations Summer Games and later, the Saskatchewan First Nations Winter Games. In 2014, the Games were renamed to the Tony Cote Summer Games and Tony Cote Winter Games in honour of their founder.

Jacqueline Lavallee
Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame (2014 - Athlete, Soccer/Basketball)

It’s not often that a university athlete is recognized as one of the top players in their sport, let alone two sports, but that’s the case for soccer and basketball All-Canadian Jacqueline Lavallee.
During her five-year career with the University of Saskatchewan Huskies, Lavallee was twice named a Canada West all-star midfielder (1999 and 2001) as well as an All-Canadian in 1999 for her efforts on the soccer field. Meanwhile, on the basketball court, she was named a Canada West point guard all-star three times (1997, 2000 and 2002) and an All-Canadian in her final 2002 season.

Sport Experiences of Nonbinary Folks in Canada community research project |
|
The Beyond the Binary research team, which has been hired by Canadian Women & Sport for a research project, is recruiting nonbinary athletes to share their experiences in sport.
The team will be conducting a limited number of focus groups. To be considered for participation, please complete the short initial short survey.
Those who are selected and participate in the 1-2 hour focus groups will receive a $100 honouraria for their time.
